so I want to get into taking pictures of my corals under actinic lighting but I wasn't sure what type of camera to get in trying to spend under 300$ I was looking at this camera does it have enough MM for good macro shots or should I look for a higher MM lens with it?

No. It won't be good
Macro is actually slightly different. Kit lense don't usually work that well.
Generally you want one that has a good close focus as well as long focal length.
I have a point and shoot lumix that is really good actually.
Best way to look and nor wast money is go put your hands on them in the store. Take a penny with you and see if the camera will focus on it from 6 to 12 inches. Zoom in. Don't rule out the point and shoots either. Try them. Some have a built in macro feature that works pretty well.

True dSlr macro run around 400 some times you can find them used. 200.

get a DSLR. you can pick them up used for 100-400 depending on what all it comes with, get a macro lens with a porthole tube. be sure to research how to set a custom white balance off a picture. its not difficult.

DSLR
Macro Lens
Porthole Tube (creates a small focal area)

RESEARCH!
taking pics isn't hard, so long as you research what youre doing. research taking pictures in RAW and setting white balance using a picture for reference.

there is a guy on here who is an expert with dslr and reef pics. he did something called photo stacking with an acan for one of the contests. it looked amazing. wish I could find him again. he would be the one to tag to these questions.

Sweet deal. That's why I reccomend good exposure over raw.
Is the OLY a dSlr or mirror less

Photo stacking is easy. Wonder if he did it for color, focus or exposure In Reefing id bet color.

not sure, but I remember him saying he did it with one of the nw 4k cameras. it was amazing looking. perfect focus on all angles to show all the detail all the way through the picture.

Focus stacking. I'll check it out.

it was in one of the contest threads from a sponsor. I think it was for the new t5/led tube lights.
