u.s. considers coral ban!!!!

I think its only a matter of time until many coral are put on the endangered species list.

They can stop the import of hammer coral for a few years then they will be begging us to take it down! haha That stuff grows like wildfire!

Yup only a matter of time before all coral are endangered species, no doubt about it....Ill have to stand on the corner secretly selling coral like a drug dealer lol

i am new to the hobby and i would say that it is definitely only a matter of time , would suck , but be on the corner buying from obi :xd:

instead of banning corals, they should be smarter to put more time and thought on how to stop global warming, because i think the reef will eventually died from global warming and not coral farming. Silly congressmen

The new propaganda term is global climate change.
Global warming doesn't exist anymore.

my FAVORITE PART of this article:
"Other activities of CBD include the distribution of 100,000 free “condoms for endangered species,” in hopes that human population growth will be slowed. Handed out across the country on Valentine's Day, the slogan on one of the six different condom packets reads: “Wrap with care, save the polar bear.”"

Basically these increasingly radical groups want humans on the endangered species list. if the projections of co2 vs temperature are correct as shown in "An inconvenient truth" temperatures should be magnitudes higher than they are now. Also Mr. Gore should be ashamed getting on his private jet to get whisked around for his speeches. His is contributing more to the “man-made” climate change than any one of us.

Furthermore why not do more to support captive propagation and offer grants for it. You can preserve and expand the population of the corals in captivity and then release into the wild when condition improve.

I should probably not post in this thread as this is a completely politcal topic now, there is nothing scientific about it anymore.

Well they have to start somewhere. They cant just not pay attention to this issue and focus on global warming alone. Or global climate change lol

I think there needs to be an advance in aquaculture for corals. We cant continue to remove corals from the reefs at the rate that its occurring. I agree with what has to be done. If you cant import them anymore, then good.

If you really need the corals that bad then get a scuba tank.

i get all my corals from local members of the clubs lol.... it seems the only stores out here carry maricultured corals and i can't keep one for the life of me...i don't think they could ever stop it there would be a huge black market and they would lose out on all the taxes imo....

Says the man living in Florida. hell if I lived that close to the ocean I would. there is a better way to go about saving the reefs then to just ban right away (hmmm reminds me of a forum I know...ban ban ban...). There are things being done to help bring the reefs back like restocking parts of the reefs to regrow almost like we do in our tanks. I think they need to concentrate on things like the factories dumping and polluting the waters. That will help the reef more than any outright ban. JMO.

*edit* 90% of my corals are frags from local reefers.

dont even look at the fact the US is the leader in dirty air and last to do anything about it. how about clean are act up and you wouldn't have to worry about coral. it would just start growing better they alway's want to take from us and not look at the problem's that they are doing nothing about!!!!!!!!!!!! but let's see we cant change it cuz we have no say so any more want a sham US gov and I have not even had a beer !! I will get back later

banning never works, it creates illicit markets(which leeads to larger problems), its been proven over and over.

BTW learned something inetersting recently....ruminants(cows, sheep and the like) are responsible for 50% MORE green house gas emmissions then the entire transportation system.

bingo!

The cattle industry alone creates more CO2 then our vehicles. :nerd:

Ban all farm animals!!!!!:squigglemouth:

To me one of the scariest things in one article I read we would have to buy permits for all the coral you have in your reef tank(s). Also interstate traffic of coral would become illegal. I guess we will have to keep an eye on this one and if it makes it to a vote in our congress we will have to make some calls.

they actually produce methane which is 25 times more potent as a greenhouse gas, so thats where the edge comes from.

Ban all farm animals!!!!!:squigglemouth:

washington is full of cattle/beef guys, doubt anything will be done:sad:
