u.s. considers coral ban!!!!

banning never works, it creates illicit markets(which leeads to larger problems), its been proven over and over.

BTW learned something inetersting recently....ruminants(cows, sheep and the like) are responsible for 50% MORE green house gas emmissions then the entire transportation system.

They sure are. Farming cattle is a large problem in the production of methane a green house gas.
From farting lol, go figure.

C'mon folks...I'm willing to bet there were more Bison in the US before we slaughtered them for farmland, than there are cattle today. Besides, it's not like we don't fart as well.

Oh no. Now I'm going to get taxed for passing gas. I'll bet Al Gore doesn't fart.:nerd:

I would have no problem if they stopped importing corals. Our hobby is a luxury and not a necessity.

actually our farts aren't as bad, niether are kangaroos:tongue: check out Freakonomics and of course SuperFreakonomics if you wanna learn more. amazing what actual data can reveal.

Coral biologists have started to dissect the group’s petition, and John Bruno, Ph.D., of the University of North Carolina, writing on the Australian based blog, ClimateShifts.org, took particular note of the assertions of loss of coral cover in many areas that the petition uses to justify protecting stony corals. Bruno himself did some of the studies cited by the petitioners.
“Now this, as they say here in Oz, is some dodgy science.... Given what we have have seen happening in the media recently, e.g., the IPCC reports, scientists should be really careful about the accuracy of their gloom-and-doom stories.â€
Some observers believe that, should this petition be approved, it could pave the way to a wholesale listing of all or most stony corals and coral reef fishes under the Endangered Species Act.
Meyers asks that anyone in the CORAL audience who can help provide an informed response to the petition contact PIJAC. The deadline for responding to the National Marine Fisheries Service is April 12, 2010.

This is my favorite part......I guess the very people the site don't necessarily agree...

This is scary stuff as it would really hinder the hobby. Having new coral strains and species is a big benefit to the hobby as well as science since much is learned about corals through keeping them in captivity. I fear we'll get more and more of these type of laws in the name of the environment and the worst thing is there isn't objective science to back it up. Too much politics going on here. I hope the petition helps.

This is what i posted on another forum,
Although inconvinient to our hobby, i think it would be a lot better if there were tighter restrictions on stony corals or even bans. With our reefs dying, the millions of imported corals cant help. Aquaculture seems like a good way to keep our hobby thriving and also have a healthy ocean future generations can see too. Just because a certain coral isnt endangered that shouldnt mean we collect it until it is.
Also people shouldnt be scared with the whole "permit" thing needed to aquaculture these species. We actually need an aquaculture license to sell our coral anyway, which some people have.
Im sure there will still be many wild colonies taken from the reefs of other stonys and im sure we will still see some of these acros and montis come in every now and again. I still see many Rhizos being imported that should not be collected or sold in the united states anyway.
This is just a way to help preserve our reefs that provide a lot more than to just this hobby and i am willing to make a small sacrifice.
Just my thoughts.

*and come on guys. Climate change is a scientific fact. its like denying math. Anyone who wants to go into this argument. i will be happy to, but it wont matter, some people just stay ignorant and deside to trash our enviroment anyway.

bingo!

The cattle industry alone creates more CO2 then our vehicles. :nerd:

so just because they create more than us, we can add even more to what is already there.
large amounts of C02 emissions + large amounts of C02 emissions = a boat load of C02 emissions. Our earth didnt take into consideration the added greenhouse effect we would create.

Please do not circumvent the system to post foul language.
Thanks!

Prohabition didn't work.

Dude..chill. Talk to Volcanoes and get them to stop spewing CO2. Our basis of life on this planet is carbon.

"Our earth didnt take into consideration the added greenhouse effect we would create"

What exactly was this ever evolving (I assume your outlook) earth planning? Maybe shouldn't have let us evolve, eh?

I love this planet as much or more than most. But to think that our little time here has destroyed it...I disagree. Check the head of the IPCC now saying that the Earth has not warmed since 1995. The medieval period was hotter than it is now. There were crops in Greenland which is now a basic Iceberg. And why is Iceland green? Cyclical weather patterns.

Nobody is saying to trash our environment. Nobody is denying that the climate changes. But as been pointed out, it changes in cycles. They will be calling for another Ice Age again in no time....

Did you ride your bicycle to work today?

Take a deep breath and have a laugh. God will fix it all soon. :)

i am new to the hobby and i would say that it is definitely only a matter of time , would suck , but be on the corner buying from obi :xd:

Dont worry bro ill give you a good deal:wink:

But ignorance is bliss and why would we want to spoil a good thing with knowledge?
