Brown cabbage coral is awful lol

Bounce mushrooms. looked ok to me at first but when i saw the price tag, it went from being just ok to ugly.

The correct answer is the brown kenya tree coral. Grow huge and are just plain ugly. Couldn’t pay me to put one in my tank.

There are no ugly corals.

There are a fair amount of corals that aren't collected very often because they're ugly. If more people liked ugly corals, more ugly corals would be harvested. Collectors from the reefs don't waste their time with corals that they can't sell for a decent profit.

Blue Ridge I think? Came on a rock so I just let it go. It's in a fowlr with nems so no other coral. I prefer softies and lps. SPS look nice and colorful but I like more movement in my tanks. I'll take a nice swaying elegance or neon green Sinularia any day. Even the flow of my green polyps on my leather look cool IMO

The lovely brown porites potato....sadly often left after the lovely christmas tree worms have perished when their specific needs have not been met

@squiderp12 youll love this
Thank you!

Have a look at this cup coral I was given. It was the only surviving coral after a tornado outbreak. The tank owner thought it was dead too, and converted to a FOWLR. This thing has been hanging on like this since April 2011, and under super poor conditions. He broke the tank down about a month ago, and this specimen found a home in my new tank.

What a great discussion. A couple of things came to mind while reading this. 1. I can't help but wonder if there is a level of "snobby-ness" in the hobby with regards to soft/hard coral. If it is easy (soft) then it is ugly. When I first entered the hobby I didn't get the wow factor when people were saying how cool various hard coral looked. Then over the years I got it, but it was an acquired taste. I always liked the movement of the soft corals. To the beginner I feel this is commonly the case. 2. I have this big 5 inch leather, that is mostly brown with a little bit of green, in my 20 that was a freebee and I was ready to get rid of. My daughter asks when I am going to move it to my 75 that I am building out. I said I wasn't because I thought it was ugly. She freeked and said she loved it. As you might guess . . . . I will be moving it. :-)

Hey!! Let's not bad mouth softies, I've met allot of women my age that prefers a softy once in a while, ugly or not :)
