Uk cold water rock pool

Big tank in the house so you can sit and watch the tank the only thing is keeping temperature down chiller are 250 300 pounds that’s not for me I want a cheap opinion. The stuff I got yesterday probably in a shop would of been over £ 100 pounds you carnt beat it . Definitely in theses hard time and I actually see more movement in this tank than BTA tank . Good luck
Just a thought on chillers. I have been toying with the idea on building a diy version using a Halfords cooler that can plug in. Coiling the inside with 16mm pvc tubing and fitting glands to the outside. A cheap return pump fitted to the tank. Also to get temp down in hot weather can fill the box with ice or alternatively a pc cpu cooler?

yes cooler is the way to go if you want to grow seaweeds from uk . Some grow in warmer water sea lettuce . But yes if you have a temp at 15 that’s good my nano runs at 18 a bit high but all do fine apart from some seaweeds . And plenty of movement in the water plenty

I'm always interested in the upper level of temperature. When I collected stuff when I was younger it was north shore of Boston,MA which probably runs similar temps that UK experiences. I currently go to the beaches of Rhode Island which get influxes of large and small temperate/tropical species. If you explore salt marshes it can be pretty warm during low tides and certain fish like killifish are abundant, as well as snails, crabs and amphipods.

In summer some of the rock pools water are really warm All the critters must be able to withstand dramatic changes as the sea comes back in . Drop in temperature and with evaporation in the rock pool and the sea coming back in salinity must be up and down. Everything I have are bomb proof hard as nails

My wife said this place is looking like a fish shop . So I sat back and let her carry on. She said any cold water tanks should be out the back yard . Hmmmm this got me thinking maybe agree even say yes your right lol
I am going to fill the back yard with ponds full of saltwater fish critters and anything l can get my hands on. A fish store outside I am thinking. So there’s always a silver lining
You might even see it on a satellite picture lol

Good fun.

I have numerous aquatic systems outside: most are 2’-3’ deep and buried in the ground for geothermal stability. 150G Rubbermade tubs work well for me.

Pretty cool. Back many years ago I had a yellow tang that had a small growth on it's dorsal fin. Back before I had access to MS222 or knew about clove oil. Went into a shallow pan, scraped the growth of, dabbed with iodine, back into display with no further growths.
