I have twice now had the vial turn blue on me and the checker reads 200 blinking. Do you know what causes this?
I test right again and it comes out normal.

The liquid turns blue as a part of the process, the higher the phosphate, the bluer the liquid.

When you say “test again”, what do you mean? New bottle, new liquid and do the entire process again?
 
Your phosphates are over 200ppm(?), which is outside of the meter limit. That is why it flashes.

(I love that color, but it means your P is screaming high.)

I think he is saying he conducts a second test and the results are in the expected range.

I have had the same thing happen to me twice now.

I figured it was simply user error on my part.

I also thought maybe my vial was stained.


But now not so sure.

Yes I redid the test instantly again and the results were 11.
I thought maybe it was user error but I’ve never seen the vial blue before except in these two instances.
I ask so if it is something that I’m doing wrong , I don’t keep repeating it.
 
It’s the ultra low phosphorus test but you can convert the reading to phosphate through a calculation or if you search you’ll find a chart on it.
 
Oh, what's the difference from the testing kits? How Is phosphate and phosphorus different? Haha sorry for the questions I just learned there is two different hanna hanna tests for this and I'm super confused
 
This was my third lot and the first time it’s happened. Should have a new set coming in Wednesday
 
My guess is an organic particle is in the water sample and is broken down by the reagent. Like a copepod, food particle, algae piece). I test almost every day for over a year and I haven’t had what you’re seeing happen. I’ll see if I can test out my theory by taking a scraping off the glass next time I test.
 
Could there be residue left in the test vial which causes some kind of chemical overload, which is then cleaned out before the next test? Otherwise I’m going with bad reagent as well...
 
I'm having the same experience from some reagent I just bought, LOT H114 with an expiration of 05/20. I got the blinking 200 then I diluted my sample with 1/2 tank water and 1/2 RO water and got a reading of 17.

I opened up a fresh LOT, H078, exp 03/21, and got a reading of 29, which is more inline with the diluted sample from above.

I'm relieved.

So, the consensus is that only certain packets are bad?

So people are suspecting that only certain packets are bad and not the whole LOT?
Phosphates can potentially bind to the inner cuvettes even after rinsing with RODI. You can acid wash your glassware which might help reduce potential contamination. Our HI7061L GENERAL PURPOSE CLEANING SOLUTION is a dilute hydrochloric acid which could work for cleaning the inside of your cuvettes. Make sure there is no debris in the cuvette with the phosphate test as that will great impact results. We have not received any complaints of bad reagent lot numbers.
