I just dont understand why their return pumps that are more in line for hobbyist tanks at $1900 or $2600, no one else that makes similar pumps are even close to that price.

Because they cater to the high end only. If you don't have 400+ gallons they are not made for you. Their small pump is overpowered for a 300g honestly. The only person I know who runs the small one has a 20'x4'x2' outdoor frag system -- 20 feet, by 4 feet, by 2 feet. And he can't even run them at 100%.

For example, a buddy of mine is replacing 3 Red Dragons with a single Abyzz a400 -- So he's SAVING money, each red dragon was $1400, that means he had to spend $4200 to compete with one $2600 abyzz a400.

These are designed for big tanks. They are not designed for the average hobbyist at all. They cater to the big boys. A market nobody else could manage.

Have a A400 and really like it and grade it higher then my RD pumps and Abyzz comes with 10 year warranty who is quite good for a saltwater pump

The a200 is the small one. It's a DC pump so they probably run it at like 30% or so.

I wont run my tank without a spare for all equipment (except for my Apex controller, which does scare me). I power my system with an Varios 8, and keep a fully serviced spare. That would mean that I would have to buy 2 Abyzz pumps - a big leap of $.

Here’s where that logic fails me though. I suppose some folks with really huge tanks may keep sump and pump under the stand where noise is an issue; but I’d bet dollars to donuts that most have a remote sump room. Then that’s a market that others can certainly manage. Something like an ampmaster will do,the same thing for a whole lot less money. OK, it’s not adjustable in quite so elegant a way, but how important is that really in a return pump. Put me in the ‘I just don’t get it’ camp .....

You're correct. They all have sump rooms. But these are silent. Lifetime warranty. Highest quality components out there. Insane head pressure. I've seen hammerheads, darts, reeflos, and everything you imagine fall apart. Never these.

Also if you're running 6 sea swirls on a 400g peninsula like that buddy of mine, you need to be able to adjust flow.

Lastly, if you're blowing out detritus it's great to crank the return, increasing sump turnover, scrubbing water better with your socks.

There's a ton if reasons that are all specific to the tank and needs.

In my defense I would never pay for new abyzz pumps that’s a lot of coin, though they are fantastic.
