got an email today and they are sending me another tank. this tank does have a bubble in the silicone near one of the bad points. DOM, once i get it tore down i am going to do what you said and run a straight across both. i like the idea of a mat but they say not to with there assy. this has an open top so i am not sure how well that would work if i used one. thanks again everyone for the input.

Good luck.

I have the marineland 60 rimless with their stand and I have nothing between the tank and stand. Glass sits directly on wood. Been setup like this over 2 years

I've never heard of a manufacturer or anyone not recommending foam/leveling mat between rimless tank and stand.

Yeah, Marineland will void your warranty if you put anything between the tank and stand, rimmed or rimless. Because it's not tempered on the bottoms, they say the mat could cause undo stress somewhere and cause a crack in the tank.

You need to make sure there are not a lot of tiny bubbles near the TOP of the rimless tank. 1 or 2 bubbles is fine, but the top of the tank is its weak point. This is right from Marineland themselves because I have the 93 cube and it's starting to get bubbles at the top in one corner.

But as long as you keep their tank on their stand, with no leveling mat, you have a lifetime warranty on the tank. I know that means jack if the tank busts open, but if you start to see something, they'll reimburse you.

I see no need for a mat? Yea it's rimless but the edges are still supported from beneath leaving the center without anything in contact Just like every other aquarium with a rim

As long as the top of the stand is perfectly flat - as it should be - no need for any 'leveling mat' (what a misnomer THAT is). If your level is long enough try shining a light behind it as you drag it across the top of the stand.

i found out that they are going refund me for the tank. i have not had a chance to take it down yet. i should have time on sunday. i am going to check out the stand really well. if i can reuse it i will. i would like to get a replacement tank but i would like to get a different brand. hopefully something out there will fit it. i may look in to a starfire cube or a deep blue professional. i have to do some homework to make sure they will work together. again, thanks for all the input !

i got the tank off the stand today and i noticed two knots in the top of stand that are raised enough to cause the tank not to sit flush. i just emailed them about this problem also. here are a couple of pics. IMG_1762.JPG IMG_1767.JPG

Styrofoam or rubber mat regardless of size. Don't make the assumption of level(ed) like I and a few know person did to watch everything shift and become a leaker. My 360 leaked due to this. An acquaintance had her front glass of her 300g literally fly off onto floor during night and all her coral and fish ended up on floor.
To make her matter worse, it was her son's birthday night and he was playing on his new Xbox one game unit in the basement and the water came through floor and ran onto his game unit while he was playing.

thats terrible news about those tanks. i think i am going order a innovative marine fusion 40 with their new aluminum stand. thanks for the info.

Glad to see you got it resolved. As an FYI, companies like Custom Aquariums/Lifetime Aquariums require a mat between the stand and tank to maintain warranty. But obviously do what your manufacturer recommends.

marineland will only refund me the tank and not their defective stand. great customer service. just lost me as a customer. not that they care. my fusion 40 is suppose to land on friday. guess who taking a vacation day and starring out the window till they get here ! BRS has a customer for life. screw you marineland !

Being a member of many clubs and groups, I have heard of a few horror stories with MARINELAND tanks. They are regarded as a major manufacturer of aquariums and I am not sure why the decrease in quality. I had a stand issue which I though they resolved quickly and satisfactorily.
On the other hand, I have a friend whos' MAR tank burst at the seams and it took over 4 months but they did issue a refund for her 150 cube system. They would not cover it, but her insurance company covered the $7K damage to the wood floors from the saltwater damage.
She bought a red sea unit as a replacement.

wow, thanks for sharing that info. will not be buying from them again.

Dang @chum though break. But I guess just be happy you got out of this now and not after you got it filled with water and equipment.
