Like the title states: after much anguish, research and inner angst I sold my pair of mp40's in favor of Tunzes' 6095. With all the anxiety the switch caused me I wanted to write my fellow reefers and give an overview of the whole experience. I sold my MP 40's a month prior to the new purchase and surprisingly my reef tank didn't crumble or implode, in fact everything looked great and after a month+ without the vortechs nothing was worse for the wear. I ordered from premium aquatics, with a discount since their not subject to the same craziness MAP pricing as ecotech(+1 Tunze). The units was on Backorder which Premium Aquatics was fast to inform me of and they also notified me it would be about a week until the unit ships out. So, July 20th rolled around and I came home to see an incredibly small box staring at me from the porch. I thought to myself no way the giant bulky Tunze' is packed in that little box.I wisked the box inside and carefully opened it fearing it might have been packed carelessly but premium aquatics never disappoints, the package inside was also equally small but very well packaged. Much to my surprise, The unit is small sleek and very diverse in it mounting options, something I wasnt very used too. When I opened the box I had a small package of jumpers ranging from 12v to 24v. So, as I read the instruction reading how to put it together, Iwas excited and I couldnt wait to see how the unit performed.
Figuring such a small unit would need the biggest jumper I installed the 24V Jumper and plugged the unit in on my 40 breeder causing water to over my tank. Quickly, I rushed to unplug the unit, "time to try the 12V jumper" I thought to myself. The 12V jumper was perfect for my 36 inch tank and the flow felt similar to my mp40 that was in its place just a month and a half before. I tried a few different locations and anlges and decided to settle on a comfortable spot on the back wall angled to reach the length of the tank (+1 Tunze). I was pretty happy the aim feature of tunze wasn't just a gimmick, it held real value for me. I will try to continue to update this thread as I take the plunge and invest in the rest of the tunze gear I so eagerly want to add. My expectation for Tunze controllers are that I will enjoy getting to a pick a controller I feel confortable with vs. the one size fits all controller approach from vortech. I wont miss color LED's telling me what my pumps are doing when I can simply turn a knob or program from my computer what I woud like to see happen. Until then, happy reefing my friends, goodbye.
