Upgrading from 29g to 42g tomorrow

So I am transferring my 2 year 29g into a 42g and I am coming up with a game plan before I rush into it. Can i use dry sand so I can rinse it and have little to no cloudy water? I am doing a filterless tank so I cant use floss to help the cloudiness. Will I have any trouble transferring everything?

What’s wrong with your old sand? Just rinse and reuse.

It takes a long time to grow the bacteria on the sand using old sand with bacteria I think would help things go better.

I can do that? I thought it is bad if I use my old established sand

I did transfer as much water as I could, to avoid shock

You definitely can use new sand or go bare bottom the rocks will handle the bacteria needs.

A little preparation is in order . Like vacuuming dirt from your sand bed . And a good washing of any new sand day or two in advance.

I finally got the upgrade done

This weekend I finally got my 37 gal to a 90 gal upgrade done . It’s been a couple days and everything seams well . the aquarium is a mostly SPS tank . It’s got a few acropora and Several montipora, and two birdsnest corals . Oddly my bird of paradise looks happier then it did in the old...

But then wont the 2 years of my bacteria go to waste? If I add all new water it would be pretty much starting over and have to recycle?

Do you have fish? You can’t starve out bacteria!!

90 days fallow and my bacteria was able to handle fish no problems.

The work of tank swap is the easy part. It is the first week after that is tricky. Don’t over feed and turn lights down.

I like the look of crushed coral can I add that without a problem? It would be my only substrate. And I'm assuming it comes with no bacteria as its dry

Yes most corals are not found anywhere near fine sand. Crushed coral is the best substrate I’ve used.
