Urgent!!! Sick lavender tang

All the fish should be placed in QT and treated - the liverock will absorb some of the copper, so perhaps pick up some PVC fittings from the home-improvement center to replace those - and ideally, should remain in QT for six weeks. That time ("fallow period") will allow any velvet organisms in the display tank to die out before replacing the fish into the display.

Just wanted to let you all know that the tang unfortunately died in the night. I will keep the qt up for the time being and clean the inside and filter as much as possible. I'm also still planning on buying some copper and a test kit as well for future so it can be handled right the first the time. I always heard velvet acted quick but this being the first time not knowing how quick. I appreciate all the feedback you all gave me now my main focus is the rest of my fishes health

I'm sorry for your loss :(

Sorry for your loss. Please do as Bruce and I suggested and treat your other fish and keep your tank fallow for 6 weeks before adding any new fish to your system. It's really the best thing you can do for a future healthy tank and fish.

I'll plan on doing that today. Luckily the dollar per gallon sale is going on. I'm going to grab a 40b and use that as my qt. I'm also going to grab another net as I the one I used was for tang in the other qt. The filter and heater currently on the gallon is for a 40 gallon so I should be good there. I'm planning on making up a quick batch of saltwater for my 75 gallon and taking the water from the 75 and putting it into the 40. If not a 40 then a 30 at the smallest

+1 Because right now you have a DT full of "Typhoid Marys". Until you go fallow/treat the carriers, it will be difficult to add more fish without them getting sick.

Probably a dumb question but should I take out the shrimp in the tank as well

I'm sorry for the loss of your tang, Foxy-88 - he was a cute li'l guy.

Sounds like you've got a good plan in mind for treating the others - carry on!

Thanks Bruce and its unfortunate that the only good pictures I have of him are on his death bed.

While your treating the other fish be mindful of cross contamination. Make sure to keep everything separated. When I dealt with ich I made sure to have everything in completely different areas and rinsed/dryed after each use. Hell I probably took it too far not only keeping things separated but anytime I touched anything to do with the QT to then immediately wash up to my elbows and dry off completely.

That's exactly the reason why I'm getting a different net and everything. I always use my "dirty" water change buckets too whenever introducing something new to my tank. Plus I work in the dirt and also get my hands dirty soldering copper and sticking my hands in walls. Plus have chickens on top of that and their coop gets gross when I clean it but I always make sure my hands are spotless when i stick them in my tank. I'm ocd about it really hahaha
