Urgent!!! Sick lavender tang

Tangs do best with a copper medication IME. Coppermine or coppersafe but you must purchase a test kit for copper and treat as stated on the package

So if I already started dosing that other stuff in the qt, obviously I'm going to stop using it and get copper but should I take out a fair amount of that water and put in cleaner salt water or just start dosing the copper

Be sure to get the right test kit for the copper you pick up . . . Salifert, from what I'm told, works well with ionic coppers such as Cupramine, while API works best with chelated coppers such as CopperSafe.

(And don't use Kordon's "Safe Copper Aid" - it's diluted to the point of near-uselessness. Took three and a half bottles to bring a 75 gallon QT to therapeutic levels.)

A partial water change isn't likely to hurt - but remember not to rush it, which can be tempting in situations like this.

That other stuff to me looks like a basic fungicide. I am not familiar with it so I could be wrong. I tagged the experts for you. Hopefully onebof them will stop in soon. I don't want to tell you to do the wrong thing. That is a very small QT and your fish is already extremely sick. So I am not sure that doing a water change on top of it right now is a good idea. However mixing medications isn't generally a good idea either. If you put some carbon in there it will suck the medication out. Which I think is a better avenue

Thanks Bruce. I did a 20 percent today and threw in a piece of live rock that was in my sump to help aid with biological filtration. I'm not planning on reusing the rock but I may keep the qt running for future use. I'll see what the lfs and get a test accordingly to the solution

Also it's a 10 gallon tank. A little small but it was the only rank I had lying around on short notice. Use to have 20 gallon but I gave it way to my brother who broke it

Ok. I'll go to a lfs and see what they have I got like 2 right by me. I'm assuming a purple tang is a lavender tang. It said it the treatment link that zebrasoma tangs can be intolerant of copper

Thanks. I assumed lavender being almost similar to the word purple they would be the same. Now that I think about it they are different. Brains all over the place right now

His tang looks to me to be in the same family of Kole tangs more than the body shape of a purple.

That's what I was looking for was a kole tang or something similar to one such as this lavender so it wouldn't get to big for 75. I'm just bad with colors apparently

I'll toss in some carbon in the filter, grab some copper and a test kit to go along with it. I'll see how that goes and keep you all updated if it goes better or worse. I appreciate the quick responses though!! You all are awesome!!

You're welcome. Just remember to take the carbon out when you begin treatment with the copper

I've treated like, naso, powder blue, purple & yellow tangs with coppersafe successfully in the past.

The first one I was drawn to look at was the coopersafe. I will search the ends of the earth to get it for this tang

Your tang looks "roughed up", like when a fish has suffered damage from velvet. I'm also pretty sure he has a bacterial infection.

I was thinking the same thing that it also had an infection and part of the reason I mentioned that he needed to read up on it. Thank you for dropping in to help
