Urgh seriously.

Hello,

I actually have a really nice record player and the stuff that goes with it. (Nope I didn’t select it, was given to me from my older brother who is the absolutely music nut in the family), his home stereo is ridiculous expensive (like the cost of my Jeep lol). But with that said, I have some records not many. But usually that’s all he plays and it sounds truly amazing. Maybe we should all go back to records and 8 tracks lol.
Hahahaha. Obviously you have never dealt with 8-Track tapes. Always getting eaten by tape players and fading out of a song before it switched tracks and then fading back in after it ran over the little metal strip - after a loud click-click! That was particularly annoying. :-) I used to repair 8-Track tape cartridges for my friends when I was in high school. :-)

Then

And 2010ish

Every member of the band had a relationship to every other member that could be described as "it's complicated".

Lol, their music was a great part of the soundtrack of my life. :)

Thanks for the memories!

Hello,

Nope never had or played with 8 tracks @Fin just hear tons of stories about them lol. My have the times changed lol.

@norfolkgarden lol yes they were great (till they fired Lindsey), but they did make things kinda complicated lol.
But that’s all my parents use to listen to and speaking of which they were the very first concert or aka rock concert I saw. I was 8 I think maybe 9, and wow they were amazing but super loud (kinda of the point lol). But I still remember asking my parents why they didn’t sound like the cd version or radio version on certain songs :)

There once were 8-Track tapes and players called Quadraphonic. 4 speakers and something different coming out of each one of them. Like stereo x 2. I had a player in my car, but tapes were expensive and there wasn't that big of a selection that were done in Quad. It never really caught on.

Hello,

Lol that’s way before my time but lol speaking of tape, I remember my brother gave me a dat player. It was super fancy and neat, but errrr couldn’t find a single dat tape to play on it. I think I ended up just donating it, because nobody sold the tapes at all. The ones I did find were blank so didn’t do me much good lol.

DAT - Digital Audio Tape - You probably had a DAT recorder / player. I am not sure that there ever was pre-recorded DAT cassettes. I knew some musician friends that used it for digital storage of their recorded material. It was capable of very high quality recording. Probably would not have been much use to you as a player, unless your brother had given you some tapes that he had made.

I know the song well. The original version is on John Stewart’s album entitled, “Bombs Away Dream Babies” from the end of the 70s. It featured Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac. I have read that Stewart was forced to write the song by his record company, or they wouldn’t release the album. He actually hated the song. I would think you could get that single, or at least that album on iTunes. I have the original LP and the single is on my phone. You do have an old music soul. :) For those of you following along at home, John Stewart was a member of the folk group “The Kingston Trio.”

It's been a loooong time since I've heard that song! "Turning music into gold" seems very telling given that Stewart was forced to write the song to get the album published ;Blackeye

I longed for a quadrophonic setup and saved money from my paper route to buy one; Dad say no, though :( Had a brother in law in the service overseas and he would send over catalogs (forgot what they were called), where you could purchase these amazing receivers, with like a thousand knobs, and huge reel-to-reel tape decks!

Am I horrible because I prefer the Smashing Pumpkins version now?
Was a big fan of Fleetwood Mac back in the day. Heard this song in 1975.
And playing records on vinyl was almost a religious experience then.
Then I bought Rumours the moment it came out, played it through twice.
Everyone around had to stop in and find out what it was.
Then I loaned it to a friend in the dorm, and didn't see it again for a month, lol.

Love the Smashing Pumpkins!

Lol, no. Well maybe, on this one. ;-)

It will always be Stevie Nicks for me. :-)

Just please don't tell me you prefer "the Atari's" version of Boys of Summer.
That would just be sadness.

The thing is, Billy Corgan sounds like he's in such pain and anguish; it fits the song perfectly, it's a sad song.

And of course, there's only one Boys of Summer, what do you take me for, a philistine?

It's a classic song. :-)

More specifically, it's Stevie Nicks song and she lived it. And wrote tbe lyrics.

Billy Corgan is awesome. But it's not 'his'.

:-)

Watching her sing it and Lindsey play guitar both in 1975 when it was so raw. And then in 2010 after all those years, with everything gone by, and so much water under the bridge, almost as friends, almost makes me want to cry.

Hello,

Wow I missed like two whole pages lol of awesome neat stuff on my one thread. I need to figure how or why my alerts do not show on my own thread lol. So going through all comments and love them all and will address all promise, sorry been crazy busy with work and I just kinda zonked out as my brain said sorry we are closed.

I will say before I go through these great music posts (my favorite hobby, it’s kinda scary but between the 70s and 80s and I being 26 I bet I can name more songs and artists than most older than me but mid 90s and above I am terrible and 60s I’m okay I know mostly Beatles , Rolling Stones, few other groups (the astronauts see how many know them lol).

But lol I will give a fair warning on maintenance for our tanks that slapped me kinda hard. I have a very basic routine and it’s simple mostly. The other day I had to buy a new calcium test kit, I tested it and was at 560 calcium. That was Monday so I didn’t dose. I tested today and cross tested and in one day went from 560 to 390. Both tests confirmed by cross reference with water samples on both days with tests from mine and tests from lfs. Did them side by side different api test kits (proved accurate, but wow I dropped and consumed that much in one day, maybe I should bump to 2 table spoons a day instead of 1.5).
Now here is the kicker on Sunday I ran out of alk powder and (barley had enough to do my normal dosage). So Monday only lfs open doesn’t carrry the powder form only liquid form and directions are hideous and it’s made by rpm. Now my test kit showed I changed at 6 and 7 was yellow. So in their directions it said 10 ml equals 10 us gallons of concentrate. So the word concentrate to me is there is way more in a smaller amount than normal right. Nope. I tried to be safe and I only used 20 ml because I stay between 7-8 alk. Tested today and I was at a 4. I went from a 7-4 in one day. So bought the powder again and put in my normal 1.5 tablespoons right away. (Now have to raise slowly), but will test later tonight and see how much that raised me and go from there. My lfs said they have never seen a tank consume so much inna day, should I be worried? Usually this means the tank is growing great and should mean its only going up. Thoughts or is this me still stupid tired from almost 30 hours of work. Worked my 24 and the. Went home to be called back in 6 hours later to help with short staff.

In terms of the music oh I have sooooooo much to share especially with Fleetwood Mac. Oh how I do have some of my favorite songs from them. I think Sara, little lies, rhianna, and go your own way are (oh Diana, and love in store, and I don’t want to know never get old, same with some songs by Queen, the invisible man, who wants to live forever, kind of magic, I want it all, I got to break free (so many more to add, but also so many more bands and songs) like 19fh nervous break down lol mothers little helper, never get old, oh and (sorry love Jefferson airplane also white rabbit), heart, lol

Hello;

Oh and like some of the songs by the cars like dangerous type, one of my fav, tons more but love don Henley Tom Petty journey, some Def Leppard, some ac/dc, madonna cyndi Lauper.

To add to our fun, each member here should give a hint to a song and person needs to name the band and If you know the year. Now 70-80 we can do some 60s (no cheating and googling them, this is based on your own music knowledge lol the fun part. However if you have cd collections or iPhone etc records tapes by all means look.

For example which group and song was the first music video and who sang it? What was it widely known for there are three of them but one or two is fine lol. If you know this song then you will already know the three things I’m thinking of:)
