Using aerosauls and burning candles bad?

One thing I can recommend, look at the top of the tank if aerosols or candles are being burned. My wife's nano used to be near the kitchen and when cooking there would be a lot of accumulation on top of the water like an oil slick.

Never had an issue with candles. The sprays and plug-ins we avoid altogether.

That was an ongoing battle with me and the wife as well I can't stress the fact how it drove me crazy when she sprayed. Never had anything happen and she used to go crazy around my tanks. But after a couple of years finnaly she compromised and short burst around aquariums. Should be ok as long she's not spraying over and in the aquarium.

I voted yes but wish it was a NO!

Most of the plug ins are pretty strong/bad for you.
But overdoing aerosols can OD quicker.
Better Half and I have gone a few rounds over these. Not for the fishes sake. For mine. Stupid things make me choke.
The less obnoxious scents aren't too bad but none of that stuff is a vitamin for you or your tank.

Boiling cinnamon or some herbs or sachets laying around are a lot healthier for you but they are a lot more work.

We have the tanks in the back of the house and the stink machines in the front.

Lol, Part of the reason we do not have a HOB skimmer is that "cup" will never pass muster. I do a lot of water changes. [emoji849]

Fabreeze isn't bad and I like drier sheets FWIW. A single yankee candle is fine but I prefer to stay out of the store at the mall. [emoji6]

OMG thank you... my mom is insaine with smelky thing... plug ins candkes sorays.. i get headaches from then all none of thrm are good for you same with candles.. candles have formaldehyde in them fyi..

I dont like a stinky house but smelly things dont help... I finalky had to tell her.. STOP please... Szhe still uses cabdkes in her room 2 feet from the 30g reef tank i setup for her.. so i made sure to put a bad of charcoal in the hob filter

Youd be suprised how it creeps... one time my mom sorayed ant killer on thr bottom of the door to the back upper decj.. which was 2 feet from her fresh water tank abd somehow 50% of the fish died.. and thats from spraying the ground.

That's ant killer toldly different chemicals than air freshener. When spraying for pest it's best to cover your aquarium for imo 12 to 24 hours. Air freshener is same concept but the chemicals aren't as harmful as pesticides are. But good point.

What about candle warmers like Scentsy that just melt smelly wax

I've used them within a few feet of my tank with no problems. I suppose it's possible that it depends on the scent being emitted. Some natural things are toxic to different animals. I used tropical scent type and other fruity types with no problems.

I have a Scentsy wax melter in the same room as both tanks, use it on a daily basis. No issues that I can identify.

Thanks for yalls input. I’ve never seen an issue with candles. Aerosauls do worry me but apparently I’ve found out they were doing them behind my back and it hasn’t cause any issues I’ve seen. Usually I look for that oil slick on the water but hasn’t appeared. I guess as long as it’s not in the same room it’s not to bad.

Thanks for y’all input. I see that candles seem to be fine as I’ve been using candles with no adverse reaction. Aerosauls are the only ones that worry me but apparently they’ve been spraying stuff in the house for a while with out me knowing. I haven’t seen any negatives from that either. I guess as long as it’s not in the same room the. It’s somewhat okay. I just compromised with candles and some plug in scent things as lo g as they aren’t in the same room as the tank.

Yup. Ours are now young adults but I still remember the sent of baby wipes and ‘natural compounds’ permeating the house!

And of course whilst they are very young sour milk. On everything.

We burn candles every now and then and they are probably within 10ft of aquarium. As others have stated you may see some accumilation on surface of water. I changed flow so there is no more stagnant areas that dont go down to overflow because of vortex pattern in corners. I also use aresols in house and sometimes on glass. I know its bad and i shouldnt but it hasnt crashed my tank or anything. I have real good filtration system so that may be why. Over use can cause cyano.
