Fair enough but wouldn't my theory still be valid. If it dissolves the rock holding the paly then you're still getting the same result - no paly on the rock. Thoughts?

Im going to leave it in the sun for a day, s florida sun is pretty harsh in the summer, bleach it 24 hours, then dark cure it in a trash can for a couple weeks, then light cure it a couple weeks more see how it looks. My 2 year old son just got diagnosed w diabeties 1 last thur so i cant afford to replace 100 lbs of live rock

I guess you could right too, but why do muriatic acid when most of the damage done by the acid would be to the rock. The part of the rock where the polyps are attached would be more protected from the acid than the surrounding rock and be eaten away at a much faster rate.
Use bleach and there is no loss of rock.
I actually tried to remove button polyps from a large rock using muriatic acid and it was a disaster.
I lost almost all of the rock and in the end, there was still a gelatinous mass still stuck to what was left of the rock.

All I can say is what has happened to me and what I've seen first hand cleaning up rock over the years.

I have a similar situation but with mushrooms. It's not bad yet but I'd like to try and get rid of some of them before they become a problem. I've only tried aptasia X and it does work but some do come back. Any suggestions?? I don't mean to hijack this thread but it seems like a similar issue.

So the reef welder definitely was working and I think it was only going to take 5 or 6 days to kill the coral, and I will probably use it for my mushroom problem. However, the paly's I was trying to kill went nuclear and released toxin like mad and hopefully were only close to creating a mass die off. I put in carbon and did a water change this morning, fingers crossed. I did loose my large hammer coral though : (.

Thanks for the feedback! Makes me rethink. Would certainly do a test run at minimum based on your unfortunate exp.

Why dont you just re buy dry rock, cure it for a little and just pull those rocks out? Save you tons of trouble, headache, and possibly playing with paly poison.

Toxin released by palys dont take much to wipe a whole tank out clean. So please save yourself the trouble lol
