So I'm plumbing up a UV system and testing for leaks, welp, it's leaking. First I noticed a leak between the volute and the provided union. The union they give you screws right on to the volute. Well, it was on tight but when I started testing it was leaking between those two. So I added some RectorSeal T plus 2 between the threads, still leaking. Am I supposed to glue this on?? I would think not. Just to note, I plan to run this externally.

You can see in the pic below where it was leaking (water is pilling) and you can also see the sealant:

How do I prevent this from leaking??

Hyoid have messy options but for now and as I have done successfully although not correct method-
I shut it off and dried it and cleaned area with alcohol, then applied liberal bead of aquarium sealant, not silicone and allowed to dry 8 hours. It’s been 10 months and No leaks

not sure what you mean by the first part, but it sounds like aquarium sealant around the threads helped? I mean, this isn't in the instructions so it sort of bothers me this thing leaks from the get-go. I was hoping there is a mfg solution to this, not some hack by me..

hi,good old fashion teflon tape ;)

Hmm ok, I'll try that. Last time I did tape on my bulkheads it leaked and was recommended to use t plus 2. If it works on this I'll be surprised I suppose. Not sure what would be the difference maker between tape and the t+2. Thanks, will give it a shot!

wrap it tight,no need to worry about cracking bulk this time ;)

i have never used pipe sealant on tanks ,only on iron,if use silicone still does not work will be pain to get off to return,i am going to hand this over for some more input @vetteguy53081 @JoshH... ;)
1 option try reg white union poss defect in current one??or defect in pump thread??..should not be this hard:)

Teflon tape comes to mind for me but you shouldn’t have to resort to this
I would contact manufacturer or consider a replumb which should be 20 mins

I used teflon tape and rector seal t+2. I cleaned the threads really well of the t+2. I took a toothpick to them for over an hour. Since I bought via Amazon I think I'll have less hassle returning it.

Again it's leaking between the volute and the provided 1.25" fitting they include in the box. Nothing to replumb really... It just leaks on parts that shouldn't.

I agree- return or exchange. These are really good pumps too which is surprising

I'll have to look in my varios 6 box but I believe there is a gasket they provide that goes in between the fitting and threaded volute. Was there a gasket provided with yours.
Teflon tape should correct this unless there is a crack in the union or the volute itself. You can check this with a flash light and a dark room, hold the light up to the union and cover the end with your hands, do you see any light coming from a crack, repeat the step with the volute as well.

Yea, I used the gasket. Already returned it :) #aintgottimeforthatjazz

So, I bought a VarioS 4, leaking in the same exact spot. Do they not intend for these to be used out of water? I'm annoyed now. Don't use silicone?

btw, isn't aquarium sealant just silicone??

Certain

silicones don’t work or break down in saltwater. Sealant has binders and resists all elements such as salt, dosing, medication and warmer temperatures. Silicone also has anti-fungal that can leach into a tank

You should not be applying any sealant to the threads. You should have a washer in between the volute and the union. This will provide the seal needed to prevent the leak.
