Well I finally am happy enough with my growth and color to make a tank thread. I have been in the hobby about 3 years and this is my third tank. I started out with all of the easy beginner corals like zoas and LPS. I really like to challenge myself in hobbies so I dove into SPS probably almost 2 years ago. What a learning curve it has been, not to mention I was cursed with dinoflagellates in my previous tank as well as this one up until a couple months ago.

This is my 93 gallon rimless cube. It is SPS dominant but I’m starting to add some select zoanthids and LPS that can handle the flow. It’s definitely getting to the point where it will be very crowded both from a fish and coral standpoint as this stuff grows. The hippo still has a good year or two before he’ll be too big from what I understand about their growth rate at which time I will rehome him or better yet move up to a larger tank.

As previously mentioned, I’ve been dealing with dinos in this tank on and off since I transferred some coral from my previous tank to this one. They certainly seem to travel in the SPS themselves because I used no rock or plugs from the previous tank and these went through several blackouts in a separate holding tank. As a last ditch effort, I decided to try an oversized UV with very slow flow and voila, 48 hours the ostreopsis were gone and continue to be for going on a couple months. Others have shared my success after I posted about it so I think it’s a great way to go for certain species Dinos. I currently have no plan to remove the UV and may upgrade to a legit unit with a wiper in the future. Added benefit of this is crystal clear water and I’m sure it can’t hurt with fish parasites.

How has your growth been with your LEDs? I am thinking of going back to them from T5 to save on bulbs and my electric bill

Great start!
Do you think the flow is the reason for your sps sucess?

I think it has a lot to do with it. I'm planning on adding another tunze to the opposite corner to hit the spots where the vortechs are less intense.

I'm having better growth than when I ran an ATI 8bulb sunpower but I think it's more due to other things. I will say that I like the look of the tank a LOT more with these LEDs. They are 20" above the tank and there is no discoballing at all even with whites all the way on.

That is pretty impressive!

Looks great! Looking at same cube but was wondering what stand you are using. Can you post pic of the inside of your stand? Thanks!

Hi, I actually would not recommend this tank. The seams are very poorly built and there are microbubbles on most of them. They will look fine in the store empty, but as soon as you fill it, the will show up. I'm not sure what the actual failure rate is, but it's not worth the anxiety in my opinion.

If you do end up getting it, I'd recommend getting a custom stand. The marineland stand is very short and extremely limited on room. Mine is custom.

Thanks for the heads up. I have been reading the same more and more.
