Pretty sure I have velvet. I added a Convict Tang when I knew his health looked questionable. I have never ran a QT.

The Convict has already died. Looked like white dust all over him and he was sticking his face in front of a power head with his eyes bugged out like he looked when the lights come on.

So, I have learned my lesson. Once all of the fish are dead, I will does aminos for the coral and let the tank sit.

I would like a list of the following if someone can help me out.

I have the following tank that is just sitting for when I planned to do this but have not done it. :-(

What else do I need?
What medications to keep on hand? I plan to treat every fish for everything.
The coral I have are growing out and if I add others I will worry about QTing coral later with Coral RX dip, Iodine or something.

Sorry you had to go through that... I went through the same thing. Thought It wouldn't happen to me.. But It Did... Now I QT everything.. But now you'll get set up and everything will be peachy.. Sucks Now....

What do you keep on hand for QT? I will just treat for every disease possible.

Sorry to read this. Hope you find what you need here.

My tank and about 15 fish have been basically healthy for many months now, but I encountered Marine Velvet three (3) times starting out. Lots of lessons learned along the way, and a TON of help from R2R members. (78 days fallow each time-- Yikes!-- you do the math.) :(

I keep PraziPro, BiFuran, Cuprion, Copper Power and Odin-ex on hand also Melafix and Methylene Blue. BRS has some great vids on QT and Fish Disease treatment.

Have you chosen not to take the fish out and treat them or are you treating them and 1 died in treatment? Or is this the 2 in the display that has died?

Sorry to hear this. Have yourself a good read in the Disease and treatment section.

One thing I will add as far as a supply list is the Hanna Checker for copper. It's the only one I have seen first hand that gives a really accurate copper reading. This will be important for maintaining proper therapeutic levels.....

With my rock work I cannot get the fish out without removing rock and breaking coral.... :-(

I am just letting happen what will happen. I do not want to kill my coral. But, from now on I will QT. I really wanted the Convict Tang and it was a nightmare. He stressed my other fish, he was sick and went down hill quickly. And then just sat in front of the power heads or at the water surface by the return pump until he dropped.

Some might fight it for months, like up to 6. So just keep an eye on them ;)

There are a couple of issues with doing it this way. If any fish survives then you will have marine velvet in your tank regardless of how long you wait. At that point the only option you will have is the get the fish out and treated. Secondly, if you start draining your tank the rock and corals become a non-issue, then you can get the fish out very quickly and into the hospital tank. Once that happens you can refill the tank with the exact same water.

Medication to keep on hand
Copper (many different kinds)
API General Cure (treats a whole host of worms)
SeaChem Prime or other ammonia binder (helps bind ammonia)

All of these cannot be run at the same time, however these medications can get your a parasite free fish.

The Yellow Eye Kole Tankg went down in 48 hours. He was fine. Dark purple, lots of activity. Went pale, hiding and not eating and dead.

Should I start dosing Vibrant to keep algae down since I won't have a Tang gang or will that add stress to the fish?

I am under the impression that leaving the tank fishless for a period of time kills off the velvet?

This is assuming that the Coral Beauty and Yellow Tangs go down next.
My clowns and cardinals I assume will go last. But they would not eat this morning either. I have an anemone that might keep the clowns healthy. Not sure how that works but they look clean and not covered in "dust"
