Velvet (Losing all my fish)

I also have a Lawnmower blenny and a couple of wrasse

I am under the impression that leaving the tank fishless for a period of time kills off the velvet?

If any fish survives your current situation then they would be carriers unless treated. You would not be fishless at that point. It is possible for some fish to survive and be carriers, much less common then for ich.

Then I will remove those and put into an observation tank while I let the DT sit. Once the DT has sat long enough, I will move the fish to hospital tank to treat before putting back into display. I can catch the clowns. If I go anywhere near the magnificent anemone they attack my hand. So I should be able to use that to catch them

I think I will use the 13.5 gallon all in one for a observation tank. But, every fish will be treated for everything from now on.

I am just really upset about the Tangs. They are my worker fish

If the option to transfer them is on the table then why not do it sooner rater then later? How big is your display tank?

55 tall. 30 gallon sump.
Yes. I may get the clowns once they are distressed but I am not current set up with a hospital tank....

One of your issues is your tank is way too small for a convict and yellow tang. If you want to keep tangs you should think about having a tank suitable for them.

They were small and doing fine. I am getting a new house and doing a 220 in the new house. For now they were not big enough yet and not an issue. Besides everything was healthy. I have had the Yellow Eye Kole Tank and Yellow Tangs for almost a year until adding the Convict. If the new house and 220 was not ready when they were too big then I would trade them for smaller fish again. It takes a couple years for them to get big right?

Size of fish is not the only variable to the environment they should be kept in. You could keep a 6" lionfish in your setup permanently without issue, but a 3" convict tang will not do well. These fish swim extensively and when not given enough room their growth can be stunted, be constantly stressed, and overall not thrive. Before you add any fish you should have an environment suitable for their needs. If a 220 is not ready yet then you should probably wait before adding more tangs.

So, then how do I keep algae issues down while I keep my nitrates at 5 and alk at 12 to grow out my coral. Vibrant? I need to know this since I will not have any utility fish.

Snails and crabs do a great job. Also phosphates play a larger role in algae growth. Some damsels also pick at algae.

I have tons of snails and blue and red leg hermits.

I really do not have an algae problem but I do not want one either.

In that case you may want to stick to smaller and less space requiring fish until you are ready to upgrade.

This was Sunday BTW. I think the Convict hanging out by the spray bar was the first sign. The Yellow Eye was perfectly fine.
