my tank is having velvet outbreak so bad. Some of my fishes cover by it. I have too many fishes to pull out, so should I dose h2o2 in my dt. Has no coral but big anemone and cleaner shrimp. Please help

I believe that velvet is a protozoan like ich. Unlike ICH, velvet kills fish very quickly. I have heard that a freshwater dip will get enough of the velvet off of the fish to give them a chance at survival. I know that copper will get rid of velvet but you probably do not want it in your display. You could pull the fish out to treat them and keep them in a hospital tank or any large food safe container with a powerhead.

But that leaves the display. It will have velvet and has to be fallow, no fish, for 10 weeks.

You cannot treat velvet in the DT without both harming inverts and contaminating live rock with copper. Sorry for this. Your options are: (1) Let fish ride it out, or (2) remove *all* fish and let DT go fallow.

H2O2 will do nothing. I recommend you read, read, read on velvet in the stickies (not what some random person said, but the experts).

Great info below!

H202 will eradicate velvet in a DT with corals and inverts, but it's rather new and largely untested. Does 1 ml per 2.5 gallons exactly 12 hours. You must do the first dose 2 hours before lights come on and the second dose 2 hours after lights off. Light severely degrades h202, so your light must he on for 8 hours a day or less if possible. Continue for 30+ days. I successfully eradicated velvet in my full on reef tank with this method, no fallow, no copper.
Full disclaimer this is a largely untested theory, and just because it worked for me, it might not work for you. Best of luck.

Yeah i would try that since i have heard a lot people say h2o2 is a good velvet treatment in dt. I know it new for us but I want to try it since I can not pull all the fishes out.
Another question, should I turn off all the powerhead and return pump when dosing h2o2. Is the dose supposely 1 ml for 5 gal or 2.5gal in reef. I dont have coral but has an big bta around 10”

I didnt turn off flow
It's hard to overdose the 3% h202, 1 ml pe 2.5 gal is what I would say, but you can safely go up to 1ml per 1 gallon of water. My 10 inch lta showed no adverse reactions, though it seemed to poop a lot more

When i check humble fish h2o2 article, he said we should turn off the flow so h2o2 don’t disolve

I never saw that. Well better safe than sorry, no harm in trying

Not sure if you’ve seen this thread.

I’m pretty excited about peroxide and looking to run some fish through it as a less aggressive qt alternative to prophylactic copper qt. I’ve had some issues with bacterial infections after using copper.

Yeah, i will try to use 1ml per gal to try on my DT since some fishes really bad shape right now

yeah, I did read that and that is the reason why I ask for this treatment. It simple and able to ttreat our fishes in DT without pulling all fishes out. I will update my treatment every other day

H2o2 has worked for some. It did not work enough for me, but I was conservative since I have a full reef and could (did) pull fish. Nevertheless, at a minimum it certainly can buy you time and considering time is not on your side with velvet it is a useful tool in the box.

Did you dose manually or you use auto doser to dose directly to sump where return pump at?
I did manually right into the flow of the powerheads, but being you cant miss a single dose, auto would be better if you have a doser

Abother question, did you turn off the protein skimmer at that time ??

@An ngo , in the other thread, they shut the skimmer off for any hour after dosing
