Well the time has finally come I'm in freeport I have no electric till sat. My fish have started to just about all die. My corals are all next I worked so hard over the last 3 years! I can now see how people fold and leave the hobby. I am staying in queens now for work but I think after its said and done I'm gonna go Fowler. I really feel down thanks for listening to my rant.

I'm sorry to hear.

There are many reefers I've heard that have lost many corals as well as fish.

Hurricane Sandy sure had a way of damaging property, peoples lively hood, finances and hobby.

As easy as a FOWLR will be, I know you'll be bored and want to jumb back into corals.

Happy Reefing!

Sorry to hear your situation. I was in your shoes only 2 hours ago. Emergency response and Pseg officials were telling us that we weren't going to get our power until Nov 6th and I had already lost 1 of my fish and a couple of my colonies (along with a few of my friends colonies). As soon as the first one started dying it was like a chain reaction going off. I have been soooo depressed, especially last night and this afternoon. Temps were down to 70 degrees, almost no flow and of course no filtration. My wife kept reminding me that our family was healthy and I could always start again and there were many worse off. While absolutely true, it's still extremely hard to hear that something you poured your heart, time, effort and money for 3 years will be taken away from you. some of these pieces took forever to grow from small boogers. Anyway, just when I was at my lowest, right after my wife and son got on a bus to head to my sisters (who has power in Queens) while I was cleaning my tank and trying to save a few colonies, the power kicked back on and scared the living bejesus out of me. Theres some loss in my tanks but the majority are okay, TG. I hope you have the same luck that I got and you get your power on. One thing is for sure, I will never go through that again. Even though I live in a second floor apt., I'm going to buy a small generator for my tanks. The bright side is that the govt. is really pressuring these utility companies to get with the program and push their efforts to restore electricity to customers. Good luck to you and I really do hope your power gets back on soon.

I'm so sorry to hear that! I once lost a lot of my livestock when the AC went out while out of town. It's disheartening but you will hopefully be able to recover.

Sorry to hear. I lost most of my tank my first year of reefing. Hurricane Ike had us out of power for over 3 days. Best of luck and glad your family is safe.

sorry to hear that It always stinks when stuff like this happens, hope everything works out

From someone who seems to go through this every couple years, keep your head up. When the dust clears clean up the tank rearrange your rocks and look at it as a new start. Besides loosing everything in Katrina we lost power for six days a few months ago during Issac. Trust me, a few months later you will be happier then if you give up the hobby. Good luck and I wish y'all the best.

Man that sounds horrible I'm so sorry to hear. I hope your power restores sooner than the 6th and don't give up!!!

I'm so sorry to hear that. Hopefully, the power will come back on soon. There are some things you can do to try and save what you do have. Remove any fish that dies as soon as you can. Do you have any water on hand? Also, you can siphon some water out and let it splash out. This will help aerate it and then put it back in the tank.

I been removing the dead fish as I saw them being what I do there's mandatory attendance at work so I been staying close by the job and going back checking. Yeah I'm depressed. Its funny people out the hobby are like the money I'm like screw the money just the time, heart, passion and the lives are what's eating me. I'm leaving it in gods hands and hopefully I'll see a way out. Thanks for all the support it does help! Hopefully I'll be able to renew but I'm by no means gonna just retire my tank

We're is your tank located maybe I can help or I can babysit them is there no possible way for you to put a oxygen bubbler or even use your car battery to oxygenate some of the water?

Very sorry to hear that I know first hand how it feels to watch something die and not be able to do anything about it :(

So sorry to hear... :( It is certainly disheartening to lose something you love in such a way. I know it may be easy for me to say, because I am not in your situation, but I've had to say it to my husband before. Don't let it keep you from what you love. Try and look at it as an opportunity to do something new. You should check out Joe Knows Reefs, as well. He has started a thread where he is giving away boxes of coral for those who have lost their live stock to Sandy. Hope things get better for you.

sorry to hear!!
I will say it over and over again, for what we have invested in our tanks a generator is a small price to pay to know all the time and $$ invested isnt going to go to waste

I know how you feel! I almost gave up twice once back about 13-14 years ago we had an ice storm and were without power for 14 days I lost 5 tanks! and a few years ago when I did a waterchange (wile medicated) and doubled the salt! I watched everything melt in a few hrs.

your not a quitter just live and learn. I bet this wont happen again

Sorry to hear about the loss .
NC is a magnet for big storms . I made it through all those years unscathed but I had backs up items and a generator.
18 months ago I moved to Mass . Left the Gen in NC in storage .About the same time last year a storm wiped me out . 100 + named SPS/Fish .....GONE.. The loss was due to cold temps and not oxygen . A Dc inverter failed on me so I had nothing to power a heater .I was heartbroken to say the least . I went through the motions . I sold the tank ,equipment etc .
Guess what ? January this year . I started all over again even though I told myself I wouldn't .
This year , one of the first things I did was pick up another generator and more back up items . We didn't lose power during Sandy but I would like to encourage you not to give up the hobby .
I have been in your shoes, so please don't let this storm take away something I am sure you truly love doing ..
