I live here in WV and we absolutely got buried by the storm with snow and now flooding..I at one point there were 300,000 without power here..and while that may seem like a low number comparatively..we are a small populated state of 1.2 million..I was lucky enough to not lose power this time, unlike over the summer when the dorachio came through..I was ready this time with battery operated air pumps..A lot of us here were not so lucky as many here have no power and no way to heat their homes with temps below freezing..As true as it is to watch your time, energy, money and dream slowly fade away because of this storm..Remember that you are very fortunate as your family is safe..Your home is safe...And You are safe..and that is very fortunate..as hard as it is we can always replace our tanks..but some things in our lives a completely irreplaceable..May your family family and home remain safe..Your tank will come back in time and may God bless you and your family..

As others said, dont give up.

Do you not have a battery air pump? I'm sure someone close could get one to you if you dont. Also as others have suggested, take 2 5gal buckets. Pour a gallon or two back and forth between them a few times and back in your tank. That will help airate the water. Do this as often as possible.

You can also pour a cap of peroxide into the tank. Peroxide turns to oxygen in water.

I did both of these things after huricane charlie back in 04 on my 46 bow. After 4 days we were given a generator from a friend who had gotten power back. I only lost maybe 10%. It's possible to keep the tank going! please dont give up.

Loosing power is one thing, but loosing it when its freezing is a different ballgame. Ct had a winter storm last year that knocked power out to a lot of people and its hard if you dont have a generator and have no way of making heat. Glad to hear you didnt loose power.

After four days of no power it is back on today. I am thankfully that I had a generator this time. Last years hurricane I lost all most $2000.00 in fish because I had no generator.

I can tell you it does suck. I had just started my new 40 breeder. My 90 gal was full of beautiful corals, mushrooms, zoas, sps, lps, a huge bubble coral, and about 8" round beautiful hammer. Everything is lost after 4 days without power. All the money, hard work, everything gone out the window. I just got power back and trying to get back to normal but i keep passing my tanks wondering if i will even start these tanks again. Now i am happy my family and friends are safe, i also realize many people still don't have power. I know what they are going through. Good idea and i hope it works. Good luck guys...

I was considering buying the mp40 batteries but those only last for about a whole day. If you want your tank to survive, a generator is a must. Living in Florida, we get with all the storms. If you dont hVe a generator in FL with your tank, your crazy...

Agreed +1.. I have a generator, inverter/battery bank, small window a/c, space heater.. It may seem overkill to some ppl, but I've been without power many times.. It's a small price to pay keeping your family safe.. Sorry for everyone's loses.

Sorry I forgot to mention, I live in Orange County, NY. I have friends and family in Ocean County, Monmouth County and Atlantic City, NJ. Many are still without power. I am grateful that everyone is safe. As for me, I discarded my corals, inverts, nems, livestock, etc. I figured this would be a great way to start over. I just wish i took a picture of the dead tank but i didn't want to be reminded of it. Right now my main focus is cleaning the house and then I'm going to attack the tank tonight. I decided I will rebuild and will be looking for good deals to buy to start up again. If anyone knows of anyone selling cheap frags I am interested in buying. I already miss my bubble corals, hammers, toadstool, duncans, ppe rastas hornets and all my other zoas, frogspawn, acros, palys, everything. Ugh, I hate thinking about it. Well, thanks for letting me rant here. Here are a few pictures of my tanks covered the day after the lights went out. I guess it may have worked for a while but after the house got to 55 degrees i knew there was no more hope. Thanks again all. One picture showed my trying to keep the water warm with 36 hr shipping heat packs. Lol, that didn't work so well. The kids were in good spirits though. If only my fireplace actually worked in stead of just looking pretty...
