Thanks, there's even more pics of them on my flikr albums. It is a gorgeous photo
I can definitely see something is changing and so far cyano is coming out as the winner. But I'll stick this out for a while.I've stopped using Vibrant. I'm convinced that it is causing an unbalance that is making my cyano worse and hurting my coral. I have no idea what the problem is, but while my hair algae has gotten much better, and I almost never have to clean my glass, my tank is suffering. I have no PE, and have lost a few plating corals entirely, probably from being smothered by cyano.
I'd love to see if your testing can show why.
). So, say another 2500gph. Which creates an awesome undertow along the back of the tank part of the time and the front of the tank part of the time. My zoas are doing great as is my bta. My pipe organ keeps getting smothered with cyano and some plating SPS's have been taken out.I can definitely see something is changing and so far cyano is coming out as the winner. My corals all look normal along with my bubble tips. Cyano has stuck to the sand and bottom of the rocks.
And I did find one of my 3 urchins last night. I'm sure the others are in there somewhere.
I'm sure that is exactly what causes the bloom. Just not sure the bloom isn't a worse problem than the algae.I had cyano growing on a high flow area of my tank not that far infront of my gyre when it receives 100% power and it never blew off. I started dosing vibrant last week for cyano, at the weekend I did syphon it all up.
My cyano started when I had a nutrient spike after aquascaping my tank and due to corals and anemones I did not want to do a 3 day blackout, all my nutrients are low so I assumed it was feeding off light.
people who have cyano growing since using vibrant is it not because an increase of nutrients from the other algaes dieing off?

With vibrant having a ph of 7.4 what organic carbon source would come to mind?Vibrant is just organic carbon dosing plus bacteria. The added organics can easily fuel cyano growth.
The idea is presumably that the added bacteria out-compete the cyanobacteria. If for some reason they do not (like there is a lot of cyano to begin with of a species that can consume the added organics), then it might make the problem worse.

@Randy Holmes-Farley, is it also possible that cyano can be jump started by the die off of algae that results from dosing Vibrant? Or do you think a bad case after dosing Vibrant is only a result of what you said.....an inability of the Vibrant bacteria to out compete the cyano?Vibrant is just organic carbon dosing plus bacteria. The added organics can easily fuel cyano growth.
