Vibrant update ?

Do we? I don’t know that they ever made a statement anywhere explaining why they misrepresented the product.

No company that gets caught like this is going to ever come out and explain their side.

UWC was very clear where they stood. Blame someone else and bury their head in the sand

So API Algaefix Marine says it is safe for fish, corals and invertebrates. But people on here have said they had problems. Is it possible that they used Algaefix not Algaefix marine? As the one not labeled marine has a warning about freshwater inverts like shrimp.

Just asking as I have a predator tank that I can’t seem to beat some turf algae. Treated twice so far with Flux-RX. I am carbon dosing to control nutrients, but accidentally let it run out and seems that I have to start over to get back to the nitrate levels I was at.

Because of the puffers I don’t think there are any CUC that I can use.

I have a bottle of vibrant that I ordered and then found the above mentioned thread so I haven’t used it. The tank has GSP in it so don’t want to kill it.

Thanks for any input.

AlgaeFix and AlgaeFix Marine are the same thing. I believe taricha points this out in the other Vibrant thread

I don't know any more than others. But people should consider the possibility that admission may carry financial consequences that makes it impossible.
Like rtparty says, don't hold your breath.

@92Miata point may be accurate. The bottles for sale may just be old supply floating around.
It may not be the case that whenever a LFS calls, they quietly sell some more.

My LFS always had a few bottles of Vibrant in stock... then the news broke about what it actually was and I saw very little of it selling. The same 2 bottles were on the shelf for months on end, just collecting dust. I figured everybody knew what it was and it wasn't selling anymore. I figured it would eventually be pulled once those last two bottles sold.

I was in the same LFS a few days ago and they had 6 or so new bottles of Vibrant on the shelf.... more than I've ever seen before.

was a little surprised to see that much of it back in stock after all that has been learned about it.

Also a little annoyed that any LFS wouldn't just carry algaefix instead and tell their customers it's the same thing for less money if they still wanted to use it. Why keep pushing this product that costs way more than it should and isn't honest.

If I owned an LFS, I wouldn't sell it. I'd put up a sign explaining how algaefix is the same thing and less money.

then again, I probably wouldn't be able to turn a profit in my LFS either. lol.

Clams are probably the most vulnerable thing to vibrant. I lost mine within days when I tried using back before this all came to light. I remember someone mentioning that its definitely a molluscicide 9nce it was found out that its algaefix.

That’s exactly what I have been suspecting from the start. Any admission could result in liability. I’m angry that people were tricked into putting something in their tanks that was not at all what they believed it was. And the fact that this was done for financial gain should be criminal in my opinion. I do believe that they are still distributing the product. There are no less than 8 sellers on Amazon for it, in addition to Amazon themselves. That’s a lot of “residual” product, and that doesn’t include any independent sellers out there not on Amazon. I cannot see how it is legal to sell a regulated (algaecide) product labeled as something entirely different. They are still making money by lying to the public.

The misconception is that forums are the center of the reefing universe. I know lots of local retailers, wholesalers, maintenance companies here and none of them spend a second in these forums. I tell them these stories and they listen but it's like it's the first time they've ever heard such a thing. They don't go searching afterwards, they're too busy with the reality of running a business. It's just one of hundreds of stories they listen to every day. The simple truth is if someone with money walks in and wants vibrant, it will still be for sale.

It blows my mind how many people don’t realize or know that us forum folk are a very, very small part of the hobby. Easily less than 10% and I wouldn’t be shocked if it was 1%.

When I worked at a LFS, I maybe had two shoppers come in that were part of a forum, be it the local club or something like R2R.

Not normally the business owners responsibility to inform the consumer yet the consumer should question the business owners ability to guide them with the correct path in a business that promotes best practices. At a minimum, if informed there might be an issue then perhaps they should now go seek some knowledge. Many seek advice from their LFS. Considerably more than spend time on forums. Regardless the business. Forums aren’t the best source of information for the masses.

Yes, the chemical in it is approved by the fda to kill mollusks in fresh water.

But one thing everyone should understand when using anything that kills algae or cyano or dinos is that when these organisms die, they can release toxins that may be much more of a hazard than the original treatment chemical.
