Vibrant? Waste-Away? Chrysophytes

The algae posted is fibrous / filamentous rather than blobby gel. Chrysophytes is a pretty unusual pest, without a microscope and matching all the visible cues I would not say that's what we're looking at here.

basically this.

I thought it looked like washed out bryopsis.

Except he isn't doing stuff. His nutrients are actually low or bottomed out on testing kits. Chyrsophytes are becoming highly common. You see posts about it every week now. There are visible cues do suggest chyrsophytes and the nutrient issue supports it. It doesn't mean it is, but I am not sure how you can discount it based on a lack of information.

Bryopsis is feathery. Is it feathery @saltydawg11 ?

This was one of his photos. Does look a bit feathery.

here's better photos of what seems to be the same thing....
I thought I’d ID’ed this stuff as Licmophora sp. but now that I’ve let it grow out, I’m not so sure. It’s a brown-ish white looking feather protruding from the live rock in mostly high light intensity areas and emerging from what looks like existing algae.

Dosing aminos and 3-part. Light GFO (Rowaphos) in a minireactor. Chaeto in a reactor. Barely feeding fish. Feeding coral lightly once a week but cutting back until this stuff is gone.

They didn't microscope it in that thread either! :-(

Or maybe they are not chrysophytes and dosing stuff is just adding fuel to the fire. Need a scope to confirm what they are. My chryso's looked like Dino's and the more I increased nutrients the worse they got.

This is what im dealing with. Is it chrysophytes or something else nobody has been able to tell me. Pic of under microscope. It looks like dinos at first but it's not. Some brown gel like algea.

I can’t say exactly what it was because I do not have a microscope, but with evidence I was thinking chrysophytes.

I regularly scrubbed and vacuumed, because it would easily detach from the rock. It would grow back within a few days. Also, not affected by photoperiods (day/night) like Dino or cyano.

I went with what I researched and was suggested earlier in this thread about chrysophytes, and decided to dose nitrate. I dosed NeoNitro to raise nitrate to 3ppm and heavy feeding to keep phosphates from hitting 0. With that, the chrysophytes (or whatever it actually was) was completely gone within 3 days!

I know you have suggested potassium nitrate, but what do you think about Brightwell’s NeoNitro? I would assume the same result of upping nitrates?

That is useless, buy food grade potassium nitrate.
