Viparspectra 165watt, Anyone using these?

I will get a phosphate checker, its only the list. I've been slowly getting things to fully round out the system to try and lessen the blow of the initial expense (that i stupidly did not budget/save for) of starting a large system.
Currently trying to finish up my RODI, and i believe that is the main cause of the cyano (silicates) but I will get a phosphate tester sooner rather than later. Thank you!

Just a quick update here... These babies finally landed!!

and here's them finally mounted above the tank. I went for some 19mm chrome tube with knock in corners for the 90° bends, then anchored the tube to the top surround with two pipe clips either side.

I would have hung the lights from the ceiling if it wasn't so good dang high, cables weren't long enough!!

Everything else is ready to go now, just need water and salt now. Funds are seriously running low now though!

My 300w Viparspectra showed up yesterday too. parts for my mount are (mostly) cut and now I'm acquiring the hardware. Hoping to have it up by this weekend. getting excited to finally have light on my tank.

I have been using 3 viparspectra 165 watts over my 125 gallon mixed reef for a year now mounted 10” above the surface of the water I run my blues at 65% for 14 hours and my whites at 10% for 12 hours I have been having amazing growth especially from my sps corals I would definitely recommend these lights well worth the price

This picture was from when I first installed the lights the whites were at 35% I have since switched to 10% whites I get a more visually appealing look and the corals are much happier

have you thought about taking the 90* lenses off to reduce some of the spotlighting? Or do you use the spotlighted areas for the SPS and the outer areas for LPS??

Exciting times ahead!! Bloody good looking light, it really does look a lot slicker and more refined than I expected!

No I didn’t make any changes to the light, and a bit of both I turned my whites down quite a bit since the photo so not as much spotlighting and what slight spotlighting is noticeable I use it to separate sps, lps, and some zoas

I found this thread and was wondering how do you lower the light.. pushing the button works on raising it but it want lower them

It should be the same to raise and lower just use your finger nail to push the little button all the way in and the cable should raise and lower

Finally finished up my bracket today.

I'm not able to hang my light from the ceiling where my tank is, so I needed a wall bracket, so I built one myself.

Here are all the main parts, cut and (almost) ready for fit up.

Need to add a few more details, knock the sharp edges off, then it will be ready to be tacked together and welded up.

Here it is after welding, and the best finish I can provide with a single $3 rattle can of gloss black.

The Viparspectra (300w) light will be bolted to the bottom of this plate, with 2-1/2" standoffs to allow for fan/air circulation between the light and this mounting plate.

Here it is bolted up, loosely. Still need to take it apart again to hang it. Will tighten all the connections once its up.

Here is a shot of the stand-offs. Went with 2-1/2" to be safe, but now that I have it all together, I'm thinking 1-1/2" would have been better. I may still change this later.

Now I just need one of my kids to stop by and give me hand hoisting this beast into position so I can bolt it up.
I thought about trying to rig something up, but considering it would be over top of my tank.... I think I'll wait for some help in putting it up.

Excited my fishies will finally be able to have a light soon!

I used blocks of wood across the tank to space the light at the right height to drill the fixings so I could do it on my own. As my wife is too short to hold the light over the tank, plus I wouldn't risk her dunking it in the tank.

I've done it I have I had a little shift around and added my orange mushroom,and gave the tank a bit of a clean as I hadn't cleaned the glass for 2 weeks

The instructions with the light say to do a 5 day acclimation period with the lights set at 5/5. I don't have any corals yet, so at this point, its just installed high and out of the way.
When I get around to adding my first coral, I'll have to lower it some.

Go higher for better blending and spread. Mine are at 14” , but I’d hang them higher if it weren’t for my canopy in order to more evenly spread the par. Not too big of a problem for me as my aqua scape was set up with three big islands from the beginning. The optics give them plenty of punch.

You may not need to lower the light, as they have lenses on they are very powerful, plus being higher you have better spread so you can increase the intensity when you need more par. If that height of light allows you to work in the tank without it being in the way I would leave it. That being said, as long as you dont have loads of light spill outside the tank.

I ha e a DSLR camera that I haven't used for over 6 years. I need to try macro I think. It was the image in the patern of the coral that I was drawn to in the hammer.
