Viparspectra 165watt, Anyone using these?

There are Par readings in this thread. At all output lvs. Towards the beginning.

I’m at 46 blue and 3 white over a 40 breeder. 30 “ from light to bottom of tank. Started at 20 blue and 1 white months ago.

For a 5 foot tank, you might need another viparspectra unit but place them perpendicular over the tank. These things are only slated for 2x2 foot areas and you're mounting higher up. BRS tested at that mounting height and recommended 100% blues and 30% whites.

Thanks for the refresh I couldn’t remember. I built the bracket for these, and built it for 2 lights so it’s staying until I can afford something better. Plus I had already owned these from a freshwater planted tank I did.

Hello! New reefer here, not new to tanks. I’m using 2 vipers for now. Currently set at 20blue and 2 white @18” above water. No coral yet still cycling. Just looking for % advice but everyone seems to be all over the place. 100 gallon tank, 5 feet long, 18” deep,” 20” tall

That seems good to me until it matures up a bit.
White especially helps the ugly stages, low light, low phosphate is a big help in reducing the amount and length of time it stays.

I’ve never moved my whites higher than 5% ever and during the first 6 months, 10%blue, started ramping up blues 10% a month and stopped at 80% and 3%. Never touched them in the following 2 years.

Looking at these for my reef pond.

Setup is 7ft x 5ft x 2ft-deep

Would I be looking at 6 or 8 for just leathers, gorgs, zoas, etc. ?

Have u checked par? I'm running 1 over my 65 gal and have it set to 100 blue and 20 white and it seems like low par for what I read online

Only once when installed.
At 14” above the water, 100% both channels under the lights was 650-700 PAR.

At 14” above the water, 80% blue and 3% white was 250-350 PAR at the surface and at the bottom, 24” down, 80-100PAR.

But I ran two over my 65g.

Do you all think that three 165 watt units over a 2ft x 4ft x 30in tank is overkill? I added the third unit awhile back because of the height thinking two wouldn't get enough par at the bottom and because I wanted more even spread.

Those lights aren't run at 165w
At best 110.
Normally almost dimmed to 1/2 if that if run blue heavy/ white low.

Figure accordingly.

I bought the viparspectra 165w for my 112L (30g) standard tank which is 80 x 35 x 40cm (31 x 13 x 15 inch).
Before i had a red sea reef led 50 over the right side and a fluval nano 20w over the left side of the tank.
The viparspectra is ~10inch above waterlevel, cant get higher cause of ceiling height.

I got a dark spot on the left corner of the tank, i think i will just remove the lenses for better spread.

Since my corals are used to the Reef LED 50 on full power, do you think i can start with 40% on blue with the vipar? The tank seems really dark overall compared with the 2 lights before.

This is my vipar 165 install, due to ease of install and allowing my cat continue to hang out ontop of my hood. I chose to cut a hole in my hood and mount the LED fixture ontop. (3d Printed parts available here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4937042)

The light is about 200mm from the water surface on a 2ft cube and am noticing that on edges of the tank maybe ~10% form the sides, the light falls off and does not cover everything. I am planning to turn some t5 fluros back on that were previously installed to bring this back the light spread / cover extra parts of the spectrum that might be missed from this light.
At the moment I am at 8% white 30% blue.

Appreciate to hear form anyone that is running T5s with Vipar, and if there was a specific t5 color that works well with this LED fixture.

Definitely not overkill. I had 4 mounted about 12 inches over a 4x2 120g and absolutely needed that to cover the tank side to side and front to back. LEDs are powerful but moat are laser beams straight down with minimal spread. Good thing these fixtures are so cheap.

I would remove the lenses and turn the light up slowly over a course of months no more than 5 % at a time and leave it there for a week and monitor if you see a negative reaction either retracted or bleaching then drop it back to where it was last happy. Just try to not shock anything.

Mine is mounted 238mm above the water on a 24x18x18 with lenses removed. I'll post my latest pic in a minute. With settings etc.
