Virispectra 165w par

Not sure about "testing", but quite a few reefers use this brand of lighting fixture with great success.

I am currently using it. Whites on one and blues on 45 and get 250 PAR in the middle. Grows SPS just fine. I have three over my 120 gallon 6 foot long tank. There is plenty of room to bump the blues up and get more PAR out of them.

I have one over my 20g long. I have it mounted about 14" above the water. Surface measurements with a lux meter are about 25,000 lux. Blues are at 75%, whites are at 5%. That's about 360 - 420 PAR at 13" depending on the lux conversion factor.

I also could turn this thing up a lot more. I just don't need that much light.

Also to note the bloomspect lights are cheaper and i almost purchased them as they appear to be the same exact light. The key important differentiating factor is the viparspectras have more blues and this is what corals need so go with viparspectras. Id imagine the bloomspect will work but not as good.

What intensity should I run it on in a nuvo 20. I will only have soft/lps

Actually you're wrong the bloomspect are identical to the viparspectra the only difference is the viparspectra have a splash guard I've had both

Interesting. Ive been told wrong then. If thats the case I would have just went with the bloomspect.

Is the splash gaurdworth the extra $30. They just uped the price to $140 on the viraspectra

No the splash guard is not necessary I've been using 2 bloom specs for 2 years now I think it's easier to maintain because stuff can get on the other side of the splash guard and the only way to clean that is taking the unit apart

The only reason I even had the viparspectra was because my buddy end up getting radons and I got them for pretty much nothing

I would go with the bloomspect as well if that is the only difference. Just an FYI prime will have the Viparspectra back in stock next week for the regular price of ~$110.

How do you know this? They were $129 before th increase.

Just a quick correction. There are few very minor differences between Bloomspect and Viparspectra units (this is all for timer version of Bloomspect):

Bloomspect does have 2 x UV 400nm LEDs, which Viparspectra do not.
Due to this Bloomspect has 2 less Royal Blue 450nm LEDs than Viparspectra does
Red LEDs are in a bit of a different location on Bloomspect than on Viparspectra.

So which would you say is better?
