Wait on trident or get a Alkatronic

I saw the trident in person a couple weeks ago at Aquashella. I was told the same thing as many here, which was "soon." It is large and sexy, but i am not an Apex guy so I wont be getting one. I was told by the rep and the retailer there that this thing is out of R&D and on to final testing... so hopefully yall get to chose soon.
I was at RAP Orlando last few years. Terrance was telling me about snafus last year at RAP. This year I saw him but decided to keep on moving as I have kept up with what's going on with the trident. Another thing that no ones mentioned is the reefbot, from reef kenetics. Tests 5 major elements out of the box(alk, calc, mag, phos, and I believe nitrate) and you can use your own choice of test kit reagents, mix and match whatever you like. The choices for test kits are a bit limited to 3 or 4 major companies like red sea, api, etc. But getting more. Eventually they want to be able to do over 20(actually I was told 29 different elements to test for) different major and minor trace elements tests. It's in the same price range as as alkatronic and trident. Does more out of the box than either. I bought my alkatronic before it was released or I would have went that way. The only other thing is it is a first release like the trident will be. Unknown things happen in first releases no matter what the company so I'm very happy with my alkatronic on its third release for now. Lol.

Was reading online that it will connect via Link1. So does that mean I can run it on my classic version of apex ? Or do I have to buy the wifi version of the apex ?

Its 1Link and no the classic doesnt have such port. The trident requires more processing power only found on the new APEX.

Valid point, perhaps that's why Neptune gave dozens of these things to advanced reefers to figure out the kinks.

Yes they did that last year as well before RAP. I spoke with Terrance at length about this issue. problem was about 70% of beta testers didn't give any or quality information back to Neptune about the trident and its problems. So they had to completely scrsp those testers vet all new ones and redo all that beta testing. This was per Terrance at 2018 RAP. Even with beta testing which if you have even read about or been one they cannot produce every real life situation in a short time frame in limited quantities. Car manufacturers who have been in business for around 100 years have problems with their first year editions every time(recalls). I'm sure they're going to do their best but they cannot replicate 3-12 months of use and abuse in 2 to 3 months with 50 to 100 units( I dont know how many this time exactly, but based that on my conversation with him last year. Which that isn't the real point here) That's what it was last year not sure the beta time frame this year. But I would be very suspicious if not 3 or 4 units out of 100 didn't come up with a problem in the first release maybe higher. I'm giving Neptune a lot of respect with that 3%/4% failure rate because I do like the majority of their products and again I'm not hating on them rather saying take the other options now that will pay for the different ones later in frags of corals to sell or trade. Up to you. The knowledge/info is free do with it what you will. I know by my corals growth rate jumping so dramatically I made the right decision. 3 or 4 heads of DS will buy any of those devices with the crazy torch market right now.

So I’ve been patiently waiting for this thing they are referring to as a “Neptune’s trident”. Maybe you’ve heard of it... Still not sure if it’s just a joke on Neptune’s part. Maybe it’ll be like the Apple Air Power.

What it boils down to is should I splurge on buying a Alkatronic or continue waiting on the ever elusive trident?!

I only see good things from the Alkatronic side. Makes me question if I want to deal with the hiccups that the trident will have when it is released.

Any input is appreciated.
Love my alkatronic, it is linked to my apex and it shuts off my dosing pumps if my dKH gets too high, automatically doses alk if it gets too low. Has worked flawlessly for me since launch. I only test calc and mag like 1/month so I dont see the need for the trident. You definitely cant go wrong with the alka imo.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Any hiccups you’ve had with the unit?

I’m on fence! I’ve told myself if the trident isn’t out by MACNA I’ll be getting an ALkatronic. I know so many people are waiting for the trident but who knows what bugs are going to happen when it’s released while the alka has had its kinks worked out for 2 years

Literally 0 hiccups. Has run flawlessly since I purchased it and my unit was one of the first so I've had it since launch. I helped write the manual for it as well so if you have any questions I'd be glad to fill you in.

I have two Alkatronics and I love them. Second unit had some issues as I bought a refurbished one as no seemed to have any in stock at the time. The folks at Focustronic were very helpful getting things straightened out. Both are running well for me and have helped stabilize my alkalinity levels with my calcium reactors. Until the Triton comes out, I don't know what the monthly reagent costs will look like. This could be like computer printers where they sell the printer at a loss, but **** you over the cost of ink. Neptune has generated a lot of hype over this product, I hope it works well.

Mindstream anyone...?
I think potentially it could be very cool but it's just a monitor not a controller so unclear if you can integrate with apex to shut off dosing etc. Also who knows when it will come out and I'm still unclear on the technology and accuracy levels. Pretty sure they will be charging a monthly subscription fee too which for me is a deal breaker.

No, I meant the post... "Months.... years... who knows at this point" reminds me of Mindstream...

It has been "coming soon" for over 5 years now...
