Yea. No thanksYes, Mindstream charges a monthly fee...
I believe it is $30 a month.
Yea. No thanks
If you had to put a monthly reagent cost for the alka what would it be?
Cheapest out there, did the math a while back. I think it's about $3-$4 a month testing 4x a day. I'm still using my $110 bottle of bulk reagent that I bought over 2 years ago. I test minimum 4 times a day. It automatically tests more if I'm out of range and it's making adjustments to my dKH.
I’m guessing you dose 2 part then. I was told that the alka has problems but i haven’t seen many ( if any) negative reviews. I’m seriously considering it but like i said I’m waiting till macna. It’s good to know the Reagent isn’t expensive.
I almost want to not buy the trident right away to see what issues arise on the initial release then make my decision between the 2
I dose kalkwasser and Triton core7, but it works great with a calcium reactor as well. The alkatronic shuts off my core7 dosing pumps via included bluetooth outlet when dKH goes above my set range (could use this to turn off your calcrx feed pump). It also sends the dKH to my apex which will shut off my kalk dosing pump if it gets an additional .2 dKH higher. I like to keep the kalk running, shutting the dosing pump off is usually enough. If my dKH gets too low it doses carbonate solution with its own dosing pump.
Who told you the alka has problems? I literally havent heard of any negative experiences outside of initial setup which were easily remedied. All those mainly had to do with the noise of some pumps which they replaced with quieter ones.
I think most of the issues were with the noisy heads. How loud are the new dosing heads? Would it be audible in a living room settings?

Forgot $40 a month its $3-$4 a month for reagentThe noise issue with the latest Alkatronic doesn't really exist anymore. I installed one for a client and was like dang it's quiet. I've read through the thread and here are my thoughts:
1. If you want to wait for the Trident, wait for the Trident while the rest of us that have the Alkatronic enjoy stability and the time saved not having to manually measure.
2. The choice also depends on how you currently run your system or how you want to ultimately run your system. If you have a CaRx, you would be doing yourself justice by having something like the Alkatronic.
3. Having the Alkatronic will open up new ways for you to maintain your system. Think Kalk / CaRx or Triton method, etc. You will have more control over what happens to your system.
4. The cost aspect shouldn't even be a concern. Overall, the Alkatronic reagent long-term cost is minimal (definitely much less than $40/month).
5. Neptune may have more support, but the Alkatronic is currently supported by the creator of the unit. That could be both good and bad; just depends on how you look at things.
6. EVERY piece of technology will have some type of issues. Just can you live with them or not. My Alkatronic has been great at what it is supposed to do, keep my dKH stable and act when it isn't. The noise is gone and the only remaining issue that I see occurring relates to getting WiFi connected (which has a lot to do with the end-users knowledge of their home infrastructure, i.e. router, etc).
7. The Trident may be great once released, but the Alkatronic is also a great piece of gear for our reefs. Also like that it is independent of the Apex. I've been in a situation where my entire Apex ecosystem failed because of a bad module. Doesn't mean that the Apex isn't a good system, but just like not having every single egg in that basket.

After tonight I am thinking the same thing!WELP...... alkatronic here I come lol
Super easy. The alkatronic sends dKH as a "ph value" through bnc cable, so you just treat it like a pH probe and name it dKH.I think many people are... @BigJohnny what is needed to run the alkatronic so the graphs show on the apex dashboard?
Sold out before midnight...Trident came out last night at midnight. Go get one they are selling out fast.
Sold out before midnight...![]()
In stock? I'm not interested but I looked and all the main vendors were out of stock.I just found 3 vendors online selling them. Try harder. They released at midnight, if you were looking for them before midnight, youre doing it wrong.
