Waitei Anthias

is it maybe a tilefish? I don't think so.
Here's a picture of the Waitie or Purple Pygmy Anthias.

and more pictures to the unidentified anthia swimming on it's own at the top all day and night but eating getting healthier. It has a nice hot pink and yellow head to dorsal but the tail isn't yellow. Hmmm [emoji848]

i think if it were a tilefish it'd bury in the sand at night? so if yours doesn't that eliminates that lol

maybe you discovered a new anthias!

Looks like a waitei to me. Different maturities have different coloration.

Out of curiousity how did these go? I’ve been looking into anthias and so far I’ve looked at these and the sailfins.
Also, it definitely isn’t/wasn’t a tilefish as they don’t bury in the sand however they do rest on the sand and make a small cave like gobies do to sleep.

That didn't work out the Waitei are just way to skinny. I wonder if anyone has had success with them. On a side note I'm looking into picking up a purple tilefish soon and I understand your the tileman.
