Walt Disney Acro Help

My is a lot of yellow at 300 par.

Here's one colony I have under T5s. Overall very white light.

And here's another colony I have under a radion; lights were going into sunset so more blue than it normally is getting during daylight.

i have seen many WD frags in person and i have always been like "meah".

never seen one look amazing..or bigger than 2"

if your just starting out, dont start out with a super high end sps. There is a good chance you will end up with a $200 skeleton.

Won't happen to you? Has anyone bought corals thinking, yeah, this one will die on me?

Here's a crappy picture of my frag. It's under 400 watt radium and reefbrite XHO. It's getting about 280 PAR. Considered moving it up but I dunno...

Tenuis can handle a ton of light. The higher the quality, the more the intensity.

They will get brownish when you have them under too much. This can get tricky with a WD since they are kinda brown at the core. If you go slow and pay attention, it will let you know where the sweet spot is.

Everyone in this thread has pretty much nailed it. It's definitely acro that looks best under heavy blues. In a typical daylight spectrum, it's mostly light purple with hits of light green. Under heavy blues, you start to see the deeper color contrast and the hits of orange/pink (assuming your particular piece has colored up and healthy). Also, freshly fragged pieces typically don't have all of the colors at first and even if they do, the second it gets moved to a new system, it'll lose some of that (in most cases) and have to adjust and color up again. Lots of times, a frag is just snipped off a tip, which doesn't have all of the colors to begin with.

When I got mine, it was essentially just a light green 1" nub that looked like a no name acro in daylight and slightly more interesting under heavy blues. After a few weeks, it started to color up. As it grew and adjusted, you started to see it take shape and the full spectrum of colors come out. It's also very hard to photograph for me personally, even when it's looking at it's best during my nightly heavy blue period.

Here’s a photo of mine under all blues with an orange filter. Doesn’t look like this to my eye. So I guess if you see a pic like this it’s bogus. Or maybe my tank is just bad lol.

Will the real Walt Disney please stand up! :zany-face:
This thread is about 5 years old.. how do these pieces look today? Google images is very impressive with about 84,000 different colors this acro pulls! Haha..

These colonies were all grown from the original frag I posted back in 2018 which came directly from Mike Biggar at BigR Corals (RIP).

The legit ones are more gold with purple tips and yellow polyps

Walt Disney is A great coral, colors up nice under higher par, but the cons are it grows so dam slow, save your time and energy get a homewrecker in the time it takes to grow out about 1/4 of an inch you could get about under proper par numbers about maybe 1 or more in growth very fast grower, and you don't need super high par numbers anywhere from 275 and upwards and they grow good, some one has a post with growth comparison of there WD & HW with a base lighting from 275 to I think 400 par and the growth is a big big difference..
