WARNING: Avoid latest AOS updates!

As hunter said earlier, this issue is very infrequent and isn’t affecting that many units. Not downplaying the issue in any way here. Just stating it seems very, very rare and I don’t know if it can be replicated?

Like going to the mechanic for a noise and then when you’re there, it never makes the noise.

A few of the stories with this issue are beyond suspect. Again, not downplaying the severity but a few stories “don’t add up” if you run the math

I 100% agree.

It's honestly the worst kind of bug when you're in software. Extremely hard to recreate it.

The fortunate for us / unfortunate for Neptune systems part is that it's unbelievably infrequent.

If you are using a 1link cable, I would try to change to the DC adapter so that you can program a rule in case of overdose (to toggle the DC adapter outlet off). That feels like the best safeguard to me for now.

I just swapped my AWC DOS over to a plug on my EB832 today and made a few rules to hopefully protect myself.

I still have the old DOS though. Did Andrew say if his were old or new? I kind of suspect he had the previous model but I’m 100% guessing!

This is the way

Actually a good idea in general!

Don’t think he said… being who he is I’m sure Neptune sends him all the new stuff for free so there’s a good chance it was a new one… but I’m assuming and we all know what that means lol..

Update on Andrew's situation. He just shared on Facebook that the root cause for his overdose was due to salt creep jamming the doser into the manual ON state.

It was actually the older doser, and they upgraded him to the newer one, which has better sealing on the push buttons to prevent similar failures.

Are you able to cut/paste the comment or link? This was a pretty active thread and closure/root cause would be helpful should someone read this before purchasing.

This doesn’t sound like your issue though. When you push the button it still registers volume delivered in Fusion. You said yours wasn’t registering any volume delivered right?

Not sure about the policy on Facebook links, but it's a private group... He made a separate post for the conclusion, so hopefully you can find it easier. Happy to DM the link to anyone who wants it.

Correct. Several key differences: mine is the new model, mine is not wet / has never gotten wet, and it is not registering the volume dosed.

Thank you for posting the clarification. Most never do. Doesn’t answer your specific issue. Funny how things often seem to coincidentally happen at the exact same time….story of my life.

It's extremely important to keep the facts straight here, and I want to be fair to everyone involved.

I'll also update things when the issue has been resolved, with as much info as I can share.

Has @NeptunePaul or anyone else made any statement? The lack of any statement is really troubling

Has anyone had wifi drop outs after the dos wd updates? I had no issues until that update and am thinking there are more issues with the latest updates than just the dos qd staying on when the apex says it is off

It's safe to say that I will not update my controllers just because some functionality is added for modules I have no intentions of buying.

The device that's meant to prevent a horror situation with your setup is the same that created a horror story for the OP.

I always thought that splitting the system between 2 or more controllers is the redundancy needed (it covers the redundancy notion that one is none and 2 is one) but in this case the update can easily destroy the system no matter how many redundancies one come up with.

With APEX I learned few things, this will just have to be added to the list

a) run multiple controllers - they are cheap! used so there are no excuses
b) plug the apex aux power supply to a batter backup or UPS for stability
c) run different versions of controllers - I run a combo of classics and A2s
d) avoid the disastrous EB832 but also pay attention to what you plug into each type of outlet on EB8
e) *NEW* don't update the firmware until months after, let the early adopters take the beating (no put intended)

Feel free to add if you have other ideas.

Mine is an older DOS as well. I haven't had time to do anything with it since it happened. I just unplugged the 1link and left it sitting.

So here’s another post about this and it’s with a new dos qd… I’m feeling better about my old ones and thinking the new dos units might be at fault here!

Ugh…. I was feeling good for a minute haha!

Hopefully it was something else. My DOS is pretty old. I have another that has been sitting unused and hasn't been updated. This weekend I'll try it out. I'm thinking about filling up a bucket with water and setting the dos up to pull the water out and just dump it in another bucket to test everything if I have time.

Sounds like hush money! :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:
