I totally agree. To me there are 2 issues -

1. does the product work?
2 . whats in the product?

I've already posted my experience with it. Despite several 90 percent water changes - the hair algae in my freshwater aquarium never recurred. IDK why? (its a discus tank - and so water changes are more often - but there was a lot of hair algae).

I have come to the conclusion that there are several products that claim to do xxxx without any damage - that in certain tanks do do damage. This is not to excuse or accuse UWC. What is unclear to me is why everyone is so hyped up about vibrant - when many people are buying supplements that have no proven benefit with no questions asked. IMHO - vibrant (whatever is in it) works.

Brs has done no wrong. This is purely a manufacturing problem before it gets to distribution.
Home depot has to trust vendors have done due diligence and are telling the truth about whats in the paint or weed killer they sell. They are not expected to run labs on said products.

Disagree. BRS seems to pride themselves in researching the products they sell. Home Depot does not produce videos about the plusses and minuses of products (AFAIK). BRS does. BTW - I'm a huge BRS supporter.

The issue isn't whether it worked or not, the issue is the labelling of the ingredients. It doesn't say algaecide and yet it appears to have an algaecide. This means people bought it and used it without knowing what's actually in the bottle. Had they known they might've not have bought it or would've done things differently when dosing (as I mentioned removing sensitive livestock prior to dosing). You're right that a lot of products make claims that may or may not be true or play out the way they claim in each tank but they better make sure their labelling accurately reflects what's in the package. It's no different if a manufacturer makes a product with peanuts but fail to list peanuts as an ingredient. People aren't making an informed choice when they buy that product.

Its funny that I dosed vibrant and ended up shutting down my tank a few months later due to the losses. I suspected Vibrant and this only heightens my suspicions.
 
It's good that some ppl have used it w/o troubles. But that doesn't negate the ones who did have issues/losses. For example, IKEA recalled a dresser that was falling on and injuring kids, and they did that even though some ppl who bought it didn't have that experience with the dresser. Someone sued in a class action lawsuit, too.

Vibrant never passed the sniff test for me. However, when folks dose phyto, with no apparent parameter change, and consequently report reduced unicellular growth on glass, the only conclusion I’ve reached is an allelopathic compound is released by booming algae. This is evidenced in the literature. As a group, we are rarely competent enough to evaluate additives. UWC should be crucified. They know what they are putting into the vibrant and it’s not what they suggest, it seems.

Yes it had been confirmed multiple times. NMR. Centrifuge. Filtered syringes. O2 consumption test. Etc etc.

You're arguing against my opinions - they may be right, they may be wrong. IMHO - the BIGGEST issue - is whether it works or not - and whether it harms tank inhabitants or not.
That's my opinion. I'm not worked up personally whether vibrant contains an algaecide or not whether man-made or natural, etc.

If they are not following EPA guidelines - they should be no questions asked. I don't care about the price - no one forces anyone to buy it. Perhaps this thread will give people education about whether they should or not purchase the product. I've posted my experience with it - which (possibly due to my mis-dosing) - was not positive. I am no cheerleader for vibrant (at least in saltwater)

If their labeling is incorrect - It should be corrected. I've read the responses that UWC has made. Some seem inconsistent - but one I agree with - is that the majority of products we use - and pay exorbitant prices for - do not have ingredients listed - and are certainly not proven. Take Chemiclean for example. You can read that story on multiple forums here.

It is my hope that UWC follows up with Randy - and gives more information, changes their label - or explains why they do what they do. I'm awaiting whatever abstract thats supposedly being released.
 
Haven't had time to research all this info, just saw a FB warning post.

A week ago, we dosed Vibrant in a 20 gallon AIO, within the first hour, firefish was dead. I recognized that there was a problem, and started some emergency cleaning on the protein skimmer, because it wasn't working very efficient. Put a airstone in the water... I figured we had a O2 problem.

Within the next hour, juvenile Emperor angel and a bicolor angel were dead.

I figured it was just a oxygen depletion issue, because a month ago Vibrant got dosed in a different 20AIO and flame angel became lathargic... I caught that fish and placed it in another tank and it was fine within a minute.

This stuff seems to be really bad news.
