Was fine 3 hours ago. What happened

Did a water change yesterday. Tested fine. Tested again earlier. Tested fine. I don’t know what happened. He ate great and was swimming great earlier today but within about 3 hours it has really taken a turn to sudden death. Any ideas?

I would recheck your parameters and check your salinity as a first step. Is there any visible marks or bumps etc that you notice on him?

I tested twice. Everything checks out. I just called my LFS and we are both stumped. I tried feeding the fish again and he swam up and ate and is now swimming a little and then going back to the spot where he’s been laying at the bottom. We were both stumped and maybe thought internal parasite?

The two clowns fight a lot and there are marks but nothing new or inflamed or discolored.

I had the same thing happen to one of mine. Did a water change, came home the next day to watch the thing go from perfectly healthy to dead. My waterchange water was a few degrees off, and I guess my clown just couldnt take it.

Could be stress related if it is continuously bullied.

I would check ammonia, salinity and temp. Just to make sure it isn't a parameter. How long so you mix new saltwater before a change?

Tough to tell from the pics but he looks thin and may have had something underlying when you bought him. Any white spots? Any heavy breathing?

I don’t mix, i buy from lfs, i have a 16g biocube. My salinity tested normal at 1.024 my test kits aren’t lab grade but nothing was out of the ordinary.

The two clowns have been in the tank since the start.

One fish i put inside of fluke. Treated tank and the clowns weren’t bothered.

The two fish do seem to get white flakes or clumps and they fall off and turn back to normal color in a day or so.

I agree, he does look a little thin, but not the best pic to tell.
Clowns are weird.. but that said, constant fighting can definitely cause enough stress to let what would normally be a minor problem become a life threatening one.
If you have the ability and or gear, an isolation box might not be a bad idea. Getting away from constant bullying definitely wouldn't hurt

Well I have 2 clowns and one is constantly in the bottom or hiding like yours around the rocks at the bottom. Hes been like that for the most part since I introduced him and another clown 6 months ago. I think it’s because the other clown bullies it a little. He does swim around every once in a while and eats so I’m just guessing it’s from the other clown as all my other fish are peaceful. If parameters are in check and there’s no visible marks then internal parasites or bullying are likely the cause. Have you ever witnessed the poop color of the clown? I had to treat mine after getting with metro and focus because he had white poop.

I’m uploading videos on YouTube to post here. You will see both fish have spots on them. The fish that was lying on the bottom “dying” has the large spot on his tail. The second fish has a faint spot on its bottom long fin. Uploading shortly.
