Hi,

whenever I see other people’s tank I always notice how clear the water is like nothing is floating around in the water.

my tank however there’s tiny white things floating around allll the time and just makes the water not look as clear.

anyone know what the issue is here or what I can do make it clearer?

I have a poly filter in the sump between the segment and some bio balls

you probably need something finer, filter wool/floss come in different sizes, you change them out every 2-3 days.
Try and put it where most of the water has to go through it.
With filter floss or wool can u wash it and put it back or do you have to put another new one in?

you can’t reuse it as it’s that fine you will never get it clean.

If you shop around it’s very cheap.
Just had a look bought a 5m roll 12-15mm thick should be perfect which section do I place it in before the return pump or before the fuge. As I would like pods to go from the fuge to the return section into my DT as I have a mandarin

Not knowing your setup...it’s normally best under the overflow tube, so as the water comes into the sump, the first thing it hits is the floss, this helps makes sure your sump doesn’t get covered in detritus and also the detritus doesn’t get into the other media so that media works better as it doesn’t have to struggle through a lot of muck to get to the water.

Would of been smart if my setup was better but the sump is horrible the pipe work into the sump literally reached the bottom of the sump so can’t even add anything under it. Just noticed the only place I can really put it is between the baffle after the fuge. Sorry about the pics as u can see I need something to stop the detritus

anywhere will do for now, as long as most of the water has to pass through it, may just mean your sump needs cleaning a little more.
If you rearrange your sump then under that pipe is the ideal place for it.

If I place it under the pipe wouldn’t the water just bounce off it instead of going through it?

yes...when I said rearrange the sump, that would include shortening the pipe so it’s out of the water so the floss sits under it.
Ah I see. Will it be very difficult however as everything is glued in so if I remove that pipe water is going straight on the floor. Did not think it through at the start

up to you, as said having it as you have it now, is not a big issue, just means the detritus will have time to settle in the sump before it hits the floss, just keep an eye that you clean the sump regularly, some people have a pump down there keeping the detritus from settling, which will help get it to the floss.

without taking socks out where in this sump would you floss it up? Or carbon balls? I've taken the black scouring pad out just before return pump. Was restricting for.

in the socks. Or better, change the socks to filter cups and add the media and floss to them.

Was eventually going to get a klir filter roller to replace a sock, due to small space in skimmer section. Heater is prob to big but was free.

Just means you change the floss manually, if you go for the cups, it’s a 2 second job changing media, the rolls are great but not if they take up most of the sump and they are on the expensive side to keep replacing the rolls.
