If I were to cut the pipe so it’s above the water line in the sump is there something I can buy to place the filter floss on? I can’t seem to figure what that contraption would be called? Media rack or something?

without knowing exactly how your sump is set up, I’m thinking the best way might be to buy a filter cup, place the floss inside it and hang it off the pipe. Or some come with a holder.

I’m going to do something like this. I’ve cut the pipe it’s around 4 inches off the water line however very noisy at the moment
