WAV pump or Mp40???

I own a pair of both. The MP40s are nice but for the money I munch prefer the Wav pumps. The Wavs make less noise, move pretty much the same Gph, and you can get two for $50 more than a single mp40. ;)

MP40 is good but if you already own a Apex the value of WAVs are awesome!

I'm kind of new to this, but I bought 2 Wav's for my 215, I have an Apex Fusion, I really like them. I prefer no wires on the outside and these are on each side of my tank, I would hate wires hanging down. Visually the wire inside disappears into the black background, the way they look and the fact that they work with my Apex, sold me on them. I was reading a thread just yesterday about both of these powerheads, people were saying the Wav's were quieter, I don't think they're super quiet, sometimes I think there's a truck running outside and realize it's my tank...lol They not insanely loud but they're def. not silent! I like how adjustable they are too, I can' put them anywhere in the tank and point them in any direction, I won't put them at the back because I don't want to risk scratching the paint off the back.

I'm still learning how to program them and have no idea how much flow I actually need...so if anyone has any insight into that..please let me know, I have a fish only tank. (I don't want to hijack this thread though).

I own and use mp40's for the simple reason that I can just grab the wet side out of the tank, soak it in vinager and scrub it with a toothbrush once every six months. Plus I don't trust having cords in a tank full of water with my hands in there.
You don't use a heater then right?

Actually I use two that are both in my sump. I also have a ground probe in the same chamber as them. Anytime my hands go in the tank I kill all power first. I also have everything hooked up to two seperate gfci outlets. Call me crazy if you want but what you won't call me is electrocuted.

For the record my dad is a 30 year electrician and he has buried two of his friends that i know of from being electrocuted. These guys have been doing it there whole life so I'm sure we are much smarter than they are.

I've got GFCI and a ground probe but I don't bother to unplug anything when I have to get in there.

I am running 2 WAVs on my 150 and unless they are practically dead silent. Unless they are in pulse mode, in which case all I hear is an alternating click as they turn on.

I’m in the same predicament on powerhead choice but I’m torn between WAV, mp40 and a maxspect gyre. I have a 2016 apex and a wxm module. Got a 93g cube just freshly set up.

My luck is not the greatest. I've been shocked by 120 volts twice. That was enough for me, ha. :)

I just flip a switch. Everything is installed in a cabinet now. This is the only pic I have on my phone at the moment. I plan on starting a build thread of my 750xxl this weekend.

I had a Gyre (first generation XF150) and now I have two Wavs. They Gyre was fine - it moved a ton of water and was very quiet but I wanted two flow pumps to create more chaotic flow. The problem I had with the Gyre was that it took a lot of maintenance. It would stop fairly often and cleaning it was significantly more work than cleaning a standard flow pump. The bushings would wear out and now it's almost impossible to find replacement bushings for the first gen Gyres. So I went with the Wavs. They've only been in the tank for about 4 months but they're working great so far. I have a 2016 Apex and it's great just hooking them up to the Apex unit without having to have any extra power bricks or controllers.

If you run a sump, and design it properly, you can run heaters vertically with the cords out of the water.

What do you do with that battery?

OR overflows, like my system. But that doesn't take the power out of the water.

Probably an automatic switching power source in case of power outage. I need to set one of those up..

No, but it takes the most likely point of failure out. In 35 years of keeping fish tanks, I've never had the glass (or metal) heater tube break but I have had plenty of cord related failures.

True, but I think plenty of people have. Anyways, I didn't mean to sidetrack the thread.
