Just like it states, looking for all whom have a wavemaker, what kind(s), and is it really needed??? I, myself, am looking into more flow for my DT. I like some others (maybe just me) would love a Vortech (several) for my 240 switching back and forth, but as it stands right now, that isn't going to happen do to other things needing the $$ that would be spent on these. Don't get me wrong, if I had the $$, I'd already have them. I've always been told all of our animals within our systems enjoy and thrive with them. Anyway, let's hear back from you guys and see what everyone thinks or is running. Thanks

I run 3 koralia 1400s, a 750, and 3 modded maxi-jets on a wavemaker code through my Reef Angel controller. They randomly switch on/off every 19-51 seconds on one channel, and 27-61 seconds on the other channel... I just threw some #s in and went with it for the random timer lol

Nice! How long have you been running them and have you noticed if everything seems happier?

Might not be a vortech or 2... but I still have like 11,000 gph randomly moving in my 180 for alot less....even with the controller I have less into it then 1 mp40.... I think lol

Just what I was thinking too. Good deal.

I had the koralia's pretty much since they came out, I added the modded maxi's like a month or so ago and everything seemed fine, was noticing more PE as well.... then I went to make some changes with my lighting, screwed something up and knocked out like half of my LEDs and ticked everything off.

Nice to hear about the PE, but sorry to hear about the lights. GL

By all means you can have a healthy thriving system from Softies to SPS without a wave-maker, you just might have not have as much polyp extension or not as happy corals. Corals can be happy with out the random flow motion created by a wave maker they just might prefer it. Also there is a few other options you could do without jumping a thousand dollars deep into Vortechs. You could either buy one at a time so its not as steep all at once, A older pair of tunzes can be relatively cheap and create great flow if there dialed in right you can even get a wave going. If not and you already have straight pushing pumps you could get a nice whirl pool effect going.

I choose the last as it was what I was using on my 125 with great results. At this current time, I'm planning on this again, but with more pumps. Thanks

Oh yeah, I almost forgot... I have a tunze 6060 (1600 gph) that runs constant along with those other pumps. The always on tunze is on the opposite end of the tank as my return.

I have a tunze 6105 controlled by my apex that cycles throughout the day with various flow patterns I created. Works great

I love my two MP10's on my 40Br.. especially since space is so limited. It's definitely not cheap but after tangling with Koralias, Maxi's, and modded Maxi's.. I haven't wanted to go back to anything once the Vortech's came into play.

Not knocking anyone who does this as I know they are inexpensive and work well but some folks invest a lot into their systems trying to match their homes decor and want everything as athletically pleasing so they prefer the nice clean look of a vortach or a tunze. I myself own mj's but use them only in my sump.

I run a Tunze 6055 on a wave maker and love it. I have never owned a vortech but can understand why people purchase them as they are aesthetically pleasing. For me the most important thing is dependability and is the reason I chose Tunze. I have two more of their pumps that I purchased over 6 years ago and they have always run without a hiccup.

Yeah for sure... If I could justify dropping that kinda coin I would grab 3 or 4 of em myself.... maybe someday when my reef grows in more. a couple mp40s would definitely look nicer, but if you get creative with placement you can hide pretty much anything you want in a bigger tank atleast (like my 180.... you can see 2-3 pumps instead of all of them, atleast from most angles).

Tunze makes a great product, and I haven't seen any of the newer ones but I know in the past their big problem was size, my 6060 is a beast.... but it runs flawlessly as you mentioned!!

I currently have 2 MP40's and a Tunze 6105 creating waves in my tank and my corals and fish absolutely love it. That being said though, before I just had a few Koralias on a Natural Wave timer; total cost was about $180 for all of it and I had a happy tank. Before that I just pointed two modded MJ1200's right at each other to create random turbulence. Also everyone was fairly happy. My point is, you can go any way you want with water movement and your tank will be healthy and happy, but spending the extra $ on the tried and true will give you that extra push to exquisite husbandry

Thanks. Hopefully I'll get to see that 40 later this year.
