We all hate them, Dinos! I have a cure...

That's good to hear Manny! Sucks about some of the corals but it seams like you had dino pretty bad? Can you post some pics? How badly was your tank infested with dino before this process?
FL_Reefer:
Didnt take pics of it this time. But it was a second coming of these little ******s.
First time around were real bad since i thought they were diatoms and continued the water changes.
Heres a pic of last time to get an idea of what the outbreak looked like

OMG, WOW brotha. I would say that was a bad one. Do you have any hair on your head left? Lol

Thats 250mg a day for 14 days ?
No let's clear this up
For your tank add 125mg per 10 gallons of your volume.
Dose this for 3 days
After the 4th day it's time to do some cleanup of the dinoflagellates
You will see after cleaning them up a little they have a much slower rate of growth.

Yea that was one of the less infested parts...
But that wave almost wiped out my livestock. This time around (like all wars) casualties were had in the battle...but hopefully i have won the war!

Ok 125mg per 10g everyday for three days then a nice water change on the fourth day

Yes sir!
I loved to watch these guys just fall to the bottom of the bucket instead of holding together in their nasty strands lol

I didn't change any water during the 3 days as the half life is short just like h2o2
My wife has a book on every medication out there with any wanted info ;)

I am thinking of adding this into my treatment book as I see no harm from metronidazole it may be a good thing to keep on hand.

Where can I get my hands on metronidazole? Can you recommend a dose rate?

This is in the early stages to note.
Seachem metro (**currently looking into the excipients **)
And I dosed 125mg per 10 gallons in my tank

I don't know if it helps but the dose in humans is 250-500 mg three to four times a day. Since mammals will actively excrete it it has to be redosed so frequently. I'm sure there are calculations to determine the volumn that dose is distributed in but that doesn't say anything about the tolerance by the corals/inverts. I would think most all protozoans would be similar in susceptability to metronidazole.

I thought for sure my corals would suffer! Why doesn't the metronidazole have any harm to the dinoflagellates within the coral tissue?
That is the strange question I am trying to answer, well one of the many questions
