Webbl's 55g Mixed Reef Fun

Just a few pics. Proud of how it's looking. Everything seems healthy and happy.

Nomo (cause he's not a nemo) has found a home.

So I finally got a LED light. A eBay special. Just hooked it up and got it hanging. I got the blues at 50% and the whites/red/green at 25%.

My question is how intense should I have it turned up to? All I had before is the 2 T5s and a small white led strip.

I think it looks pretty good as is, but what should I have them set to for acclamation?

Thanks

Looks really good. Start it really low. Then gradually ramp it up over a couple of weeks
That's what I've been reading also. Just wasn't sure if I should start lower or not. I guess we'll see how it all acts.

Now I need to figure out the tricks to take pics. The corals look pretty sweet under the blues.

Looking forward to seeing what happens.

Even though the coral look awesome under the blues in my experience generally pictures taken under blues don't look so fabulous. I generally turn up the whites to take pictures.

If you could borrow a PAR meter from someone in a local club you could set some definitive measurable set points. Or buy the Seneye Reef, it has a built-in light meters but it is spendy.

Thanks. I'll see if anyone has one next time I'm at one of the lfs's. Not sure of any local clubs.

Some pics with the new light. Not to bad for cell phone pics.

Little photo bomber.

I lost some zoas, not sure how, the right side all died . The puffer was hanging around....not blaming him, but he's suspicious.

Anemone doesn't like flow or something, so he's found a home in the back!

Thanks for looking.

Got a new coral the other day while browsing for some chemiclean. Having a nice little cyano outbreak.

Anyway, I picked up a green ricordea. I think there are 2, each about the size of a nickel.

My girlfriend picked out a nice Duncan coral. Been looking at these for a little while so I'm glad she wanted it.

Kinda crappy pics.

Nice corals though. Definitely start lower on light and increase gradually. you may need to move pieces around to get it right. It is a guessing game at first, but you will get the hang of your lights and flow and tank. Par meter will give you a great starting point if you can find one.

Thanks. I did notice the corals not opening as much, I think I had the lights up to much. I have the blues now at about 50% and the whites around 25%. They all are open now, so I will take it slower. Still think it's plenty strong. My zoas are all open, but almost flat on the rock they are on.

Seems to be doing good though.

The new light is doing good. Everything is pretty happy. Even the algae blooms :-p.

Oh and I got some new zoas. Some radioactive dragon eyes I believe.

I lost a bunch of zoas on this rock after I got it. I'm happy to see them finally starting to grow back though. Not sure what happened.

Full tank as of today.

Oh. And if you can see those spots on the back of the tank, I think those are little coraline algae spots. They are pink. Yay!

I wish I could uncover my acans, I have 2 new heads starting to grow. I will try and get some pics when the puffer isn't watching.

Been playing with my phone camera settings and got some nice pics under the blues.

This hobby has made me want to invest in a nice camera. My phone isn't cutting it for me.

Photos look great, your clownfish looks just like mine. What's he hosting? May want to try getting some cheap gel filters for the phone. I just picked some up and they're pretty fun to play around with and definitely help with getting the color balance right. Plus it's a h*ll of a lot cheaper then buying a new camera xD

Thanks! You talking about his black spots? I'm not sure what he's been getting into. I haven't seen him ready go into anything, he spends a lot of time around the Kenya tree and my GSP though.

My tomato called the long tentacle home.

I've seen people talk about the gels. I will look into that. Kinda want some orange lens, one of the lfs's here, the guy has some orange safety glasses he lets you wear. Freaking awesome.
