So for the longest time one of my local fish stores was strictly freshwater. they've been setting up their saltwater system for months now and finally got their first shipment in.

Curious to see what they got, my friend and I went over there today to find they had the WEIRDEST clownfish.

They were labeled "Nub Tail Clownfish" and were being sold for $80 per clown.

They didn't look 100% healthy - they had stringy white feces hanging from them. But nothing other visually wrong except their tails were, well, nubby. And that to me just didn't look right at all.

My question is, has anyone ever seen these around before? I searched everywhere online and couldn't find anything about them. I'm just curious where they came from.

What are y'alls opinions. Do you like them or think they don't look right?

Wow these are beautiful, i wouldve bought them. Treat with prazi, dont want to wakeup the reefsquad so ill give this thread a bump tomorro

I normally do not like all of the "designer" inbred clownfish that stores are charging crazy money for. You mean you pay extra for your clownfish to look like a burn victim?
Anyway, I really like these two. Except for that gimp tail. I'd be a bit concerned about that.

The tail is what is getting me too! I've just never heard of "nub tail" clowns and don't know where they're getting them and they seem to swim extra hard to get around efficiently. very odd.

Wow that is odd, I too am not very big on designer clowns so I don't know much

While I personally really like the pattern on those clowns, the tails look like a bad deformity. And a hindering one at that. No way would I pay $80, or even half that, for those clowns.

It is a birth defect. A responsible breeder should have culled these fish [emoji35]. This goes beyond just a visually different clown. These guys can't swim as well as normal clowns.

The owner of my lfs has 4 of them and is marking them as their own morph called nub tails as if it's some cool thing but they can barely even swim right :(

Clownfish are pretty bad swimmers to begin with. That tail certainly doesn't help the situation.

Is this the same store that has CB horses I said looked like cull?
No, different store! I actually just went by the store that had the seahorses and they had another shipment that looked realllllly bad :( so I pointed it out to the owner, hoping they do something about it
