Well played BRS, well played!

Just to clarify, you purchased the "BRS Special Edition ApexEL", correct?

The "ApexEL" is still readily available..

How long do you think you will hold out before you buy the Energy Bar :p
What's the difference between the two? Water level monitoring? Or is there something else?

The upper mounting piece? Or one of the float brackets? I can send you a replacement part if you’d like :).

Pretty surprised it could break by falling off the table- I can’t break them by hand with reasonable force!
Wheaten Terrier (name's Tess), very excitable, can go from 0 to a buck 20 in a heartbeat and she can break about anything she wants (especially new tank stuff you're ooooing and awwwwing over that hasn't been wet yet). She caught the cord somehow dangling over the table and there it went banging across the room. By the time everything settled down, she was hiding in the other room, wife came out to see what the disaster was and found me holding a brand new level detector with a drooping bracket half hanging on.

Yes the top bracket with the screws. And thanks, that'd be very nice of you. I'm OCD enough that every time I open the cabinet the "not perfect bracket" catches my eye. You know how it is. :)

I just love how they released a best of lighting video yesterday and they kept harping on and on about renting a par meter and the cost to rent a par meter JUST went up from $50 to 70. Well played indeed.

I appreciate the fact that BRS will rent a par meter for $60-70, the hard part is the $450 deposit. I understand why, but it's still easier to buy the $200 option, hook up to your computer. You can either sell it or use it to do others tanks for a small fee.

As far as QM's post - the BRS Apex EL is a good deal for entry but it does has limitations.

BRS does have the rental at 50% off right now if that helps so it’s only 35 bucks for a while

Maybe it’s a theme, and dogs just love the brackets?? Good taste!! Top piece on its way:)

See link below. The special edition came with water level monitoring and without the energy bar for a $250 entrance price. Monitoring only with no control.

It seemed like a good way to get people into the ecosystem at a lower price point. The idea being that most would add to it as they could afford, or as needs changed...

Limitations exist only if you want it to do something it can't. ;)

I wasn't cutting it down, It's limited to monitoring. No Salinity, ORP or 4 channel var speed outlets.

Ah, okay. Didn't notice the energy bar wasn't included so I was confused how the water level monitor added an extra $250.

I know you weren't, it's not the full monty and don't need it to be. You and I have traded mildly sarcastic yet always amusing posts a few times before. Always enjoy someone with a sense of humor and felt you'd appreciate a little pithiness.

And they are offering 50% off the rental if you spend $500 on lights. Very well played!

Had to laugh when I saw this post. I have the BRS special edition. Within the first couple weeks, the floats with text alert helped me catch an issue with my ATO. I quickly saw the value in disaster management on my own tank and have since bought a FMM, EB832 and AFS. The lower entry point made it a lot easier to justify as well as adding the addition components later on. Well played indeed!

Holy... $70 to rent a meter?

The low end apogee was only 150 when I bought it new.

Never understood why this isn't more widely considered one of the top two measuring devices for reef keeping
1. Refractometer/conductivity meter
2. PAR meter
