What’s wrong with my elegance coral

My elegance coral has been retracted for a couple of days and it has this weird while stringy stuff on it.

Can you get an after / current pic under white lights, stringy stuff could be the start of ecs (elegance soral syndrome). @ReefSquad

ECS - esp if the tentacles start to turn stubby.

I had it a few years ago and dispite all my research for treatment,, it slowly died over a 2 month period.. based on my research at the time - there is no known effective treatment, or even complete understanding of the cause.

Does your coral have the "cone" shaped bones? It seems that they are sometimes more susceptible to ECS.

Treatments that claimed that had worked includes: fw dips, antibiotic dips, moving to low light/flow, and pray to a diety of your choosing.
However all these evidence of effective treatment have been anecdotal.

Thank you I will try a iodine dip and if it doesn’t work I will try a fresh water dip

I don’t understand... how would I get ecs if it wasn’t exposed to it? The only way it can possibly get it if it is exposed by another elegance coral that has ecs.

Could have been exposed in the LFS or just stressed. FWIW, mine had it. It was rough sloughing flesh and all. I ended up doing at 10 min FW dip and moving it to low light and low flow, 2 days after it was bigger than I had gotten it from the LFS. Haven't had an issue since.

When it comes the Elegance. There are only 3 things that get you sideways:

1) Flow. Too much flow and it gets urinated-off

2) Light. Too much light and it gets urinated-off

3) Water Quality. Too much NO3 and/or PO4 it gets urinated-off

Investigate each one of these....

I don’t understand... how would I get ecs if it wasn’t exposed to it? The only way it can possibly get it if it is exposed by another elegance coral that has ecs.

This would be the case only if ECS is of a bacterial, parasitic, or viral origin but we are not even sure of that. We don't know the cause, so can't rule out cause from water chemistry or other environmental factors and how it is interacting with biology of your specific specimen.

Just a heads up, it did look super urinated off after I did that as well. But the very next day it was slowly coming back out. The 2nd day it was in full bloom. There is a write up by I believe Orion on ECS. The thread is requesting before and afters of the coral and FW dipping. I'm not saying it's 100% effective, but the one coral I have that had it responded very well.

It did the same with mine. Make sure to put it in a low flow, low light area and let it be.
