Update: I’ve woken up today, and the leather has managed to completely shed the algae from its polyps and is extending again. Some left on the stalk I can remove.

Happy to see it improving by itself. I’ll keep an eye on it

Great. Because your last question went unanswered, I wanted to reply in case anyone else reads the thread in the future, or incase you encounter this again. When removing hair algae from living coral tissue you’re better off simply pulling it off as best you can even if you dont get every last shred. ”lightly scrubbing” is asking for damaged coral tissue.

re your question about cleanup crew, I have great luck with trochus snails, astrea snails and turbo snails for the rock and glass, and a nassarius or two to tidy up the sand.

No pox lowers nitrate, does little for PO4.
You need a GFO like RowaPhos to lower PO4.

I would just lower the phosphate and white light.

crabs do little to combat GHA and can become a problem

Looking at getting some chaeto since I have a spare Nano light I can fit in the sump to keep nutrients balanced and will pick up a few snails.

As far as lighting goes I’m running the BRS recommended spec for a mixed reef tank and that holds whites at 60%. I’ve never liked white light, but I figured they know best

I never liked white much either, I like the “pop” look with blue, and white, maybe 1%, 250 at the top, 125-150 mid way, 75-120 bottom, 50 in the corners.

At the end of the day, it’s PAR and spectrum that drive growth, and each and light pushes different combos of that.

But stability again rings king.
Find the look YOU like in the blue/white mix, then set intensity with PAR meter, then forget them and never touch again.

Many Frag shops run 150-175 to the rack.
