What’s wrong with this dying Duncan?

I got this Duncan on Aug 15. When I got it there was bare skeleton on the side from where it had been cut from the colony. It was healthy and quickly formed skin over the cut area and was doing great. Then suddenly about 6 days ago it started closing more, and it’s progressed to where it doesn’t open at all, is starting to recede at the base and a little on one head, and these odd bubbles are forming on the stalk. The bubbles are the thing that has most confused, never seen that before. I’m puzzled what happened because it was perfectly happy and expanded since I put it in the tank and had even healed over the cut area.

I did dip it in seachem reef dip two days ago which seems to turn around most lps but it continues to go down hill.

Most other corals (hammers, multiple gonis, acans, blastos, zoas, monti’s, garf bonsai acro, psammocora) are doing great. Only other corals I’m having issues with are a space invader chalice and a hydnophora which are also receding but those started at a different time.

Any swings in water chemistry? Might be worth trying running some hybrid media like Brightwell's Purit incase there's something undetectable in the water to see if that helps.
I've had things like this happen when the water chemistry seems fine and never got to the bottom of the issues.

The main 3 have been mostly solid according to my Trident. I check salinity a few times a week and that has been steady.
Haven’t tried PureIt before but I’ve heard it can help in these mystery situations. I’ll pick some up.

how is your flow? this is what happened to my own duncan when I started losing some heads was when my flow wasn't good enough when the colony got too big, and detritus began to clog up the polyps and kill them. I had to split the colony up to reduce to size and allow better flow through it. Ever since then all the colonies from the split looked happily ever after

Flow is great. Two gyre xf330 on OGC creating current and Nero 5 creating a resonant wave. It’s just a two head frag though so there really isn’t anywhere for anything to collect.

I have a 30 head Duncan that was doing well for almost 4 years, started with 2 heads, and now has been closed up like yours, for 4-6 months and starts to come out buts retreats again. Tried everything nothings helps. Try ICP water test. According to ICP tests my sulfur content has been rising for as far as I know 6 months or more. Is it the sulfur? I sent a sample of freshly mixed salt water for ICP test, lets see if it is in my salt. I hope that is where the sulfur is coming from. What salt are you using? I use Reef Crystals.

It’s been a few months since I sent in an ICP nothing was out of the ordinary then though. Might be time to send in another. I use HW Reefer, but I’m almost out and have a bucket of Tropic Marin Coral Pro on deck.

I hope yours gets better. Can you send a snapshot or copy of your ICP results? Would love to compare results with you.

This test was July and this month the sulfur is 300ppm higher.

It does look unhealthy, the skeletal color is off. I have one that looks just like that, and its alwaus BRIGHT green.

Same, mine is half bright green and half magenta

Yea it was bright green until about a week ago then this.

How can that be when his calcium and magnesium are high? Just wondering, there may be so many things to limit their calcium uptake.

I did see on other forums people talking about duncans with a yellow spot disease though maybe research that

I was, but now he can't eat this way.

Try reef roid- I know there is mix opinions on this product but I swear by it, all my LPS gobble it down regardless of their polyps size.
