I was browsing the Facebook adds in my area and came across a guy selling a 120 gallon tank with stand, canopy, and wet dry sump plus some tubing and odds and ends. It was listed for $300 and I’m like that’s an amazing score if it is what they say and the pictures he sent are it’s current state. I tell him I’ll be there Saturday to check it out and buy if it’s as he describes. (No scratches, chips, wood is not scratched, tank doesn’t leak). Then this afternoon he says his wife really wants it out of the house and to drop the price to get it gone. He goes down to $225 and I was already in at $300.

There was no mention of lighting or pumps but I’ll just have to see tomorrow when I get to his house.

The tank is 48”x24”x24” just like my DT only a lighter stain on the wood and the tank looks like an Aqueon mega flow dual overflow tank. Mine is Planet Aquarium. I bought mine new and the tank, stand, and canopy with glass tank lids cost me about $2700.00.

Here are some pics he has sent of the tank.

For $225 I can’t pass it up. I’ll just have to store it until my fish room build is complete in a couple months.

Who else would jump on this deal if you stumbled across it? What do you feel the true value is based on the pics?

yes- that is a good deal.

Yeah... I'd call that a score for sure! You could definitely make that work. I'd probably upgrade the sump, or at least make a mod.

I found this guy’s post. Just talked to him and offered him $500 and locked the deal (paypal’d already). Thanks for sharing! I will post detailed picks when I pick it up.

Oh yeah, I’m buying for the tank and stand. Anything else is extra and will either be used somewhere along the road or a new home found.

Score!

I'm always on the lookout for a 6' 120g, or something in the 80g range with external overflows. Not something I would buy new, but like you, if I found one used for a steal I just wouldn't be able to say no!
I already went the new route because I couldn’t find what I was looking for used at the time and with my current 120 being in our living room it had to look nice and fit in. (Wife’s rules)

Since this one is going to be in the fish room in the back that I’m currently building it doesn’t have to match and $225 is far less than the $2700 new price tag. I had to jump on it.

Hope my post was a reminder, never know who reads these threads. Post it after you have locked it or someone might sneak in. ;)
Funny! But It’s been marked sold since yesterday afternoon before my post and hasn’t been listed since yesterday.

Just got home with it and once it’s unloaded I’ll get more pics.

It’s got some scratches on the glass but pretty minor really. Got some hinges that need cleaned or maybe replaced from salt spray over the years but really not bad at all.

Extra stuff:
2 rio 1400 pumps (1 missing parts and 1 is complete but untested)
1- 250 watt Eheim heater (untested)
1-extra large Magfloat (probably the cause of the scratches)

The stand shows no indication of leaking. It is plywood construction with oak facing and trim.

Grand total $225.00

I always get nervous on deals that seem really good so I'm glad that this seems to have worked out for you! I look forward to seeing more pictures as you put together the system! :)

I feel you. I felt it was way to good to be true and was waiting for a catch. Seems the issue was the couple had moved into a trailer home about 3 years ago and the wife wouldn’t let him set it up due to the weight and the lack of support for the floor. I guess it was in her way empty long enough that she made him sell it and wanted it gone quickly.

I bought an exact size tank just at a year ago and bought new because I wasn’t seeing anything for sale used that they didn’t want newish price. I went new and it cost a small fortune by the time it was done. Looks great and the wife likes it. I stumbled across this and I had to pounce.

Here is my current DT just after setting up and a more recent video of it fully stocked and the reason for needing more tanks. So many fish I want and only so much space in each tank!
