Congrats on your find! Craigslist has some incredible deals as well. I just scored a less than 2 year old Red Sea 425XL with 2 Ecotech XR15 G4 Pros, a Ecotech Vectra M1, 2 Ecotech MP10 Quiet Drives, and a Reef Octopus 150INT Regal for $500!
I test for 24 hrs with a few pumps running inside to create flexing and pressure.
Good find, if it makes you happy, great find...
Ditch the heater, not worth using a used heater.
That wet/dry sure brings back memories.. I would ditch it too. Get a real sump or build a sump.

I plan on leaving the tank in the back of the truck all night. It is filled as full as it can be without spilling over to the drilled holes within the overflows.I test for 24 hrs with a few pumps running inside to create flexing and pressure.

Heater fail rates are high. Most are good for a year then start to go down hill. It’s a safe practice to replace them annually. That used on who knows how much time is on it. Why risk everything on a piece that costs so little?I plan on leaving the tank in the back of the truck all night. Why chunk a heater if it is still in working order? It is being tested in a 5 gallon bucket right now and it is heating. I have to check that it doesn’t have a stuck on problem but used heaters have uses. Water mixing station, emergency use until one can be replaced, or used along with an external temp controller for added insurance.
I completely agree with it not being trustable as a heater in a display. At least not without a secondary temp controller like an ink bird or others.Heater fail rates are high. Do you not agree that after being retired from a DT that a heater still has a purpose that it can serve?
These are the types of low to no risk scenarios that I see for an old heater:
Added heat to throw in the tank if the home heater is on the fritz, water mixing, fresh water dips, used temporarily while getting a replacement heater that kicked the bucket.
I was just thinking what a move...touchéI found this guy’s post. Just talked to him and offered him $500 and locked the deal (paypal’d already). Thanks for sharing! I will post detailed picks when I pick it up.
