What are the most underrated fish?

Marine Bettas are awesome fish. I don't know if I'd say they are underrated, but certainly under represented. I doubt you could find a more hardy and interesting fish.

I agree, it’s just a shame that the marine betta is the only member of the genus that’s available regularly. Some of the other species are beautiful, it’s like only offering ocellaris clowns when there are so many other kinds.

Vrolik’s Wrasse. Mine picks pests right off the other fish and pecks at the glass, sand and rocks all day. He also eats algae! I have two tangs and a foxface and none of them will touch gha, but Orkin, my pest control wrasse goes wild for it. I’ve even caught him eating cyano.

Plus he’s crazy gorgeous.

how big does that guy get

Wow thats a tough one I would have to say a majestic angelfish I have had mine for 5 years they are stunning

Butterfly fish, their angelfish cousins get all the praise and attention. but the butterflies have far more personality and are very interesting fish.

I see you have these with corals. Do they bother them much? What kinds of corals do you have? I love the butterflies, they are my favorite fish, but since I have corals, I haven't gotten any. I did try the copperband and long nose in the beginning, but they didn't live long.

Pyroferus Tang and lieutenant Tang. Both are fairly uncommon in my experience but they are both gorgeous in my opinion, especially as they get to adult size/color.

Also think the royal gramma is impressive. Maybe not underrated but certainly striking!

I believe that the shrimp gobies (specifically the Amblyeleotris spp.) are highly underrated.
Theyre not as active or flashy (in most people’s opinions but not mine) as other reef fishes, but they have one job and they do it well.
The Randall’s Goby is my all-time favorite of the genus, but the Wheeler’s Goby is a very close second.

Butterflies for sure. Just can not keep them and most corals. So far mine have left the grandis palys and the blue ridge colonies alone. Soon to try sinularia and toadstools and maybe glaxia. My Klein’s did my large Miami chalice in in a week.
