What can be causing this type of STN

Ohh I gotcha... I missed that part in the original message, my apologies. Why such a high temp swing? Do you know? With the Apex you should be able to dial that in to half a degree.

I have to correct myself in the temp swing is within 79-82 the summer temperature usually holds 81-82 in the winter it's around 79-81 . As I have my heater set to kick on at 79 . I can probably raise it up

Mesenterial filaments extended can be what is believed to be 1) a feeding response or 2) a stress response. Often in low nutrient systems, when alk rises above a critical threshold, the tips may have extended filaments while "burning".

However, certainly has the appearance in your video that it is being stung by a neighbor. I know someone commented previously about the pectinia being a possible culprit and I would carefully consider that as a reasonable possibility.

I think I figured it out though, my phosphates are back at 0 again. This is frustrating I can't raise po4 and no3 in this tank, any ideas on how to raise the phosphates efficiently ?

I'm going to say the issue was a quick rise in KH above 8. 7 to 8 wont do much harm but a rapid rise above 8 can cause all kinds of issues, especially if nutrients are low. Why is it rising?

As far as PO4 goes, .1 is fine as long as it's stable, if it's swinging from .03 to .15 back to .03 it can kill acros. I learned this lesson the hard way.

-- woops, re-read that po4 test again. I don't think it's low po4 but perhaps testing is faulty or it's swinging around.

In my opinion, temp swing, lighting change, or attacks from other livestock - or maybe something you're not thinking about now versus two months before your initial post. This probably happened 6 weeks before it was actually visible and you're just now seeing (at the time of your initial post) the results of the STN onset. With STN, often the coral is sickened long before it's obvious to us reefers.

I think you may have changed too much too fast.

Also, I have recently had trouble with my corals at that calcium level and lowish mag. Once I got that back up, they stopped falling apart.

This happened to me recently and it was from me messing with my tank too much i.e lights and parameters...I put the lights on an old schedule, stopped messing with the parameters and left the tank alone and the stning stopped.

I believe the consensus is neutral and case specific. Mesenterial Filaments can indeed be observed as a reaction to various stress factors. Additionally the filament extension can also occur in certain Acropora species as a natural feeding response.

How old is your tank? What lighting are you using? Have you taken any of these sick acro's out and dipped? If its multiple pieces like you say its either a parameter causing this or a pest. I think if its another coral stinging, you would not have signs throughout the tank, just that particular sps.
